I don't think Amazon needs webOS, they aren't really a technology/ hardware company. they are a retail and digital content company. their kindle hardware is mostly just for consumption. web os is wasted on the kindle especially when so many models have black and white screens. amazon won't and shouldn't get into the game of creating phones or general purpose tablets.

IMO I think Apple should buy palm so they can get jon rubenstein back at apple, buy up palm patents and integrate the best webos features into iOS.

You're talking thru your ass. "Every company it has touched"? It's just TWO, Palm who developed it & HP who brought them. WebOS didn't curse either & the failure was with the hardware not the software. The blame rests solely with HP who have long record of being the kiss of death to things. They killed the iPaq organizer, Voodoo & didn't help webOS by putting in a tablet that looked antiquated next to the Ipad 2 and had slower internals like an A8 chip.

This makes no sense. I mean it made some sense for HP to buy - they didn't have something of their own. It would have made a lot of sense for Nokia to buy - hell Maemo and webOS were pretty code compatible. Amazon doesn't even have to worry about Apple suing them, it looks more like a PlayBook, and when they launch a 10" model it'll look like a big PlayBook, plus the interface is completely different, there's just no grounds for a suit. There's no reason for Amazon to buy webOS. Now I'm sure they've considered it and gone into talks about it, it would be irresponsible as a company not to consider potential options, but I doubt it's gone further than that, as it just wouldn't make sense.

At this point it's companies like HTC who have the most to gain by buying webOS.

They could easily move the app store over to webOS. Both are based on linux. It's just a matter of using the right hooks in the code. It would be just like Blackberry getting Android apps on the Playbook.

No, no, no, no, NO!

WebOS has cursed every company it has touched. You got me psyched for a cheap Android tablet, Amazon, my wallet is already in my hand... but if you switch to WebOS, the Kindle Fire will be a dead man walking!

Just don't do it!
