Amazon has announced it is fully acquiring the LoveFilm DVD and games rental service, operating in Europe, three years after LoveFilm bought Amazon Europe's DVD rental. The deal, expected to be finalized this quarter, will see Amazon pick up the remaining shares left over from that transaction, and take onboard a fully functioning post and streaming media service.

After selling its postal DVD service to LoveFilm in February 2008, Amazon had been left with a "significant minority shareholding" in the company. Described as the "European Netflix", LoveFilm offers DVDs and games by post, as well as streaming films and TV shows to computers, consoles and STBs, across the UK, Germany, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

Financial terms for the deal – together with Amazon's long term plans for the service – have not been disclosed.
