This week the folks at Alcatel have revealed the likes of the ONE TOUCH IDOL ALPHA - all in caps, just like that - as the lead for its new line of IDOL smartphone devices. This machine brings on a 4.7-inch display coming in at 1280 x 720 pixel resolution with IPS LCD technology backing it up. This machine works with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean under the hood with a quad-core 1.2GHz processor (of unnamed pedigree) with a 12.1-megapixel camera at its back.
This device works with three rather unheard-of qualities in its build, the first being "Dragontrail Glass". That's a sort of reinforced glass we've not seen appear on any wide-release smartphone before. You'll find Oleophobic coating across the front of this device (that means its aimed at dismissing fingerprints) while the frontside capacitive button range is called a "Black crystal touch panel" - we'll see more on that piece of technology when we get our first hands-on opportunity later this week.
Then there's the light-up edges we're promised in Alcatel's release information. Only Alcatel can do this bit of technology justice with their own fanciful description as follows:
"IDOL ALPHA takes creativity to a new level with translucent edges, which illuminate in various modes such as charging, video, notifications, and more to give a smarter experience."
Meanwhile the Alcatel ONE TOUCH IDOL ALPHA comes with "full lamination" meaning it's shiny on all sides - it's got microSIM and EAP SIM capabilities with GSM quad-band and UMTS dual-band along with 42 Mbps DL / 11 Mbps UL speeds. You'll be able to work with GPS and AGPS as well as Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP. The back-facing camera on this device work with autofocus and has the ability to capture 1080p video while the 720p-capable front-facing camera rolls in with 1.3 megapixels for simple selfies.
Inside you've got 16GB of storage space alongside 1GB of RAM and a 2000mAh battery to top it all off. This device will does not yet have a release date nor a set price, and we're rather unlikely to see it hit the USA in stores any time soon.
