As we noted yesterday, Apple made a few changes in the Apple Store that didn’t exactly get put in the spotlight. In addition to the available RAID option in the Mac Pros, Airport Extreme got a nice boost in speed.

Airport Extreme

According to Apple’s website the Airport Extreme is now capable of running at Gigabit ethernet speeds. However, after the guys over at ComputerWiz got their hands on one, they were sorely disappointed to only get speeds of 100Mb/s.

After confronting the guys at their local Apple Store they received new unit which did give them the speeds they were looking for. While it would seem possible that they just got one of the older units, their box clearly stated Gigabit on it. So if you get a new Airport Extreme base station, make sure it’s running at the proper speed before you go throwing away your box.
