Sony has discontinued the production of Aibo and Qrio, the entertainment robots, a small paragraph in Sony’s Q3 Fiscal Year 2005 results confirms the rumors. As a part of a reorganizing move which was expected ever since Howard Stringer took charge of the global electronics powerhouse, Sony has also discharged 10,000 employees.
This move will allow the company to concentrate on mainstream profitable ventures, but, it will also delay the innovation in consumer robotics as Sony has so far held the flag in the consumer robotics market.
