ADT really has a screwed up business model. They have those dealers and they do not represent the ADT well. When I bought my system i was really confused between ADT and ADT dealers. You really can't tell the difference in the advertisements, to add to that the dealers lie and say they are ADT. Than when I asked why is one ADT is charging me $699 and the other is giving me $100 to do business; they than tell me they're a dealer and need my SSN. Be aware out there.

Sounds like an Independent ADT Dealer or subcontractor. If you deal with ADT Corporate they NEVER ask for SSN (not even during the process of negotiating the contract). Watch for the dealers! They can give you way better pricing than Corporate, but they end up charging a higher monthly charge to make up for the difference. ADT Corporate offices assigns your 'lead' to a random sales rep who then gets in touch with you and the residential sales rep guys are ONLY paid commission...so expect them to book you in for a consultation ASAP. The biggest priority fort an ADT Corporate Residential Sales Rep on a lead generated call is to get his foot into the door to get an appointment so he can present.

ADT Corporate Residential (and all other) Reps are also trained to visit sites that are under construction for security consultations as well! They're provided a safety vest, hard hat, and is expensed a pair of steel toed dress shoes...and they're suggested to keep those things in their trunk.

Interesting article, ADT is one of the companies who is supposed to be leading the pack in as far as the new paradigm on how Home Automation will be getting introduced to our home in a mainstream way. Large security system companies, like ADT, are planning to include Home Automation technologies as part of their systems for sale to consumers by the year 2015. This should be a big boost on integrating HA into the average Joe's home, but if they provide horrible service such as Mike describes below they won't get too far! Will have to do a whole lot better than that, in fact they should be providing Design Services to a homeowner like Mike (below) customized to his needs. My opinion anyways.
I noticed that the Pulse uses Z-Wave technology and just wanted to point out that HomeSeer Software using either Insteon or X-10 protocols can provide the user with information about their home as well as allow you to interact/control from a PC, Smartphones such as iPhone or PDA's as well. You can also do live feeds, receive emails or SMS's and remotely control your lights and appliances too! My last home did all this almost fifteen years ago so unless Pulse does alot more than whats described above, ADT kind of reinvented the wheel! Plus, I am not so sure, in my experience that Z-Wave is the way to go (unless you're a millionaire!)

I strongly discourage anyone from buying this system. At first I was exuberant. I am building an 11k sqft home. The home is framed and walls will be closed in soon. I called ADT and spent over an hour on the phone trying to get answers to simple questions about their system (i.e. max # of cameras..) The said that only a technician can answer my questions and that I should call them back when house is completed. I explained that I need to no more about their system and design before walls are framed bc most other systems are not wireless. After spendinga another 30 mins while he got appprovals from supervisors....keep in mind 1.5 hours just to set up appt...they agreed that we could meet in about 55 days. House is in wifes name they needed to record a call with her rather than me. 3 days later they called back and she had to answer all of their questions again, then they asked her social securtiy number. She said not giving it and inquired why. They said that they have to pull her credit to set up appt. WTF??? I pulled phone from her and they insisted on SS# to setup appt. so they can then answer my questions so that I could see if this is the way I want to go. This is probably going to be a 40k+ system. There is no reason for them to pull credit just to meet but they would not budge. She has a 730 credit score and we have a construction loan that will need to go to permanent financing in a year. A credit inquiry that is senseless will bring score down when we go to permanent. This much trouble just to speak to someone....hardly worth it. BTW, I have used many security companies at other homes and none have pulled credit
