For many uses, the USB port is too slow. This is part of the reason why we have faster connectivity options on the horizon. Addonics has announced a couple new memory card readers that use faster connectivity options to allow for faster uploads and downloads.
The two products are the pocket eSATA/USB DigiDrive and the internal USB/SATA DigiDrive. The internal version slips into a 3.5-inch drive bay on a desktop computer and the external drive is a portable version of the device. Both can read up to 15 different memory card formats.
The faster connectivity will be a big deal for users who are transferring lots of files to and from CF cards. When connected via eSATA the drive is capable of 1500Mbits/sec and with USB, it is capable of 480Mbits/sec. The price for either version is $64 for the read only drive. Read and write versions are available.
