Acer TravelMate X3 aims at pros with 10 hours of use per charge

Acer has a new notebook computer that is aimed at the professional user needing a portable device that has long run time per charge for all day use. The new machine is the TravelMate X349 and it is 18mm thick and weighs in at 3.3 pounds. The machine can run for 10 hours per charge thanks to power miserly hardware under the hood.

The notebook can be fitted with Intel Core 6th generation processors, paired with DDR4 RAM. Storage is via an SSD to give the machine more run time and faster access to data and software. The chassis of the machine is aluminum and it has brushed-metal finish. Copious use of aluminum is what allows the machine to weigh in at 3.3 pounds despite a 14-inch display.

The 14-inch screen has IPS technology and 1920 x 1080 native resolution. The display can fold 180-degrees to lay flat on a surface making it easier to share data with a group. The keyboard is LED backlit to make the notebook easy to use in low light situations. The keys themselves are chiclet-style and the track pad is wide and precise for easy use.

The operating system is Windows 10 and the notebook has integrated speakers and a microphone for web-based communications. Other features include a 720p HD webcam, USB Type-C port and WiFi. An optional USB Type-C docking station is available that can support two 4K monitors and more connectivity via the USB Type-C port on the notebook. For security, the machine has a TPM 2.0 chip. The TravelMate X349 will launch in North America in October starting at $649.99. Rollout in EMEA will start in September with pricing at €480. Chinese buyers will be able to get the device in September starting at ¥5,999. Specifications will vary by region and more details will come closer to launch.
