Acer TravelMate B117 aims at students and teachers in the classroom

Acer has rolled out a new notebook computer that is specifically designed to help students and teachers learn in the classroom. The machine is called the TravelMate B117 and it runs Windows 10 Pro for the OS. Acer says that the B117 was built with common feedback from educators and students gleaned from in-school visits and research.

The B117 is the first notebook to use the Acer TeachSmart solution that enables new classroom interaction methods. TeachSmart gives teachers tools and cloud-based services to distribute classroom materials and collect assignments digitally.

Acer fits the machine with an LED light on the lid that can flash in different colors. Students toggle the four colors to indicate their status. Using the colors the students can answer multiple choice questions with the light and it can replace raising your hand in class to be called on by the teacher.

Acer gave the B117 a ruggedized frame with a rubber strip to protect from drops and bumps. It weighs less than three pounds and is less than an inch thick. Buyers can choose Intel Pentium or Celeron processors and the machine has an 11.6-inch screen and Intel HD graphics. It can be fitted with up to 4GB of RAM and various HDD and eMMC storage options. Price varies with the hardware chosen and region.
