Acer just announced their new line of Gemstone notebooks, and we’ve got pictures of their new design.

Overall, I’m not that impressed. It does look a little more sleek and curved, but in some ways I think it comes off a bit cheesy. The big news is that it is the first to receive Dolby Surround certification. I’m really not sure how much I would enjoy surround sound on a laptop that’s sitting in front of me, but I would have to hear it to be sure.

It is also rumored to come with your choice of either Blu-ray or HD DVD drives so you can have high def video to go with your surround sound. No word on pricing or availability just yet.

I own the Aspire 4520 looks exactly like this model except the blue buttons on the keyboard are lime green. Personally I love my laptop mine DOES have the dolby surround sound and it very clean when I want to listen to music and movies but it acts up when your using instant messenger mic/webcam it cancels the other person’s voice so you can hear it better which gets really annoying. I have figured out how to turn that off but not without huge headaches. I hate vista which is the operating system on this! It is a bit heavy for me but the body is solid. Overall it is a really sleek machine the pictures dont do it justice when you first open it your first reaction is wow thats sexy. So personally I give it 3.7 out of 5.
