If you're making comparisons to a netbook then you obviously have something seriously wrong with your system as even a low end Ultrabook is multiple times more powerful than a netbook.

Check the Asus support site as they've posted drivers and BIOS updates that address most of the problems that effected the Zenbook when it was first released, like slow touch pad responses, etc.

Core i5 also means your system has Intel's Turbo Boost, can double check if it's enabled, and see if your system is over heating as that would effect it then and cause performance to vary widely and possibly randomly.

While I agree about Acer build quality, they tend to focus more on cost cutting than making their systems look premium. However, Ultrabook pricing is expected to come down a bit once the Ivy Bridge systems start coming out. So there should be alternatives with at least near that price range.

Of course there's a catch. They probably going to hit you with a slow i3 that has the power of doing nothing. I have an Asus Zenbook 13" i5 and it already slow occasionally. I can't imagine going with a slower i3 and a slow SSD, it's like using a netbook. Also in-term of quality and feel, Acer current ultrabook feels very cheap and it can only feel cheaper with that price.
