IPS is a type of TFT display. Since the article says ‘working “like” IPS’, it probably means it isn’t an IPS TDT. ;)

Tegra 3 is a 40 nm device. It may be that this Iconia display (is it 1920×1200 or 1920×1080?) is more energy efficient than current 10″ displays, but who knows.

Is there any evidence that ICS is more power efficient? There should be some enterprising Nexus S users out that could do some tests.

Alternatively, it could just be one 3260 mAH battery that delivers twice the voltage.

There should be a voltage number accompanying the mAH rating on the laptop battery then.

Not necessarily true, the new processors might be fabbed on a smaller scale (say 28nm) and so may draw less power than older slower designs. And remember the power efficiencies baked into Ice Cream Sandwich…

All units I expressed were in mAh. Thank you for your post too, I’ll do a bit more research into it since what you’re saying would make a lot more sense. The idea that the new Icona Tab would have a battery with 3x the capacity seemed a little off.

I’ve also heard the iPad 2 has a 6400mAH battery, so twin batteries in the A500 would seem sensible considering its extra thickness.

Damn, Acer has come out swinging this CES. Glad to see them really
pushing the envelope after so many down years. Hopefully this is
competitively priced and is good build quality (hopefully is the key
word). In other news, manufacturers of laptops 13.3″ and up, you have
no excuse for continuing the reign of 1366×768!…

The screen resolution is 1920 x 1200, not 1925. Also the name is the Iconia Tab A700. The 2012 is a placeholder.

Your laptop battery is 3400 what? What are the units? Laptop battery capacity is not reported the same way as mobile batteries. Why? Who knows.

Your 15″ laptop battery capacity should be on the order of 60 to 90 WHr. This 9800 mAHr battery is on the order of 30 to 35 WHr.

The A500 battery rating of 3260 mAH is likely the rating on one of the A500 batteries. It highly likely has 2 3260-mAH batteries for a total of about 6500 mAH or about 24 watt-hours.

It’s highly likely that this new Iconia tab will have a shorter or the same battery-life as the A500. All the new features likely require more power.

How large is that battery compared to the Iconia A500? My 15″ laptop battery is only 3400 and I didn’t think the tablet battery would be much larger.

Edit: Just lookedit up, it’s 3260 apparently. Does that mean the new tab will run for 3 times as long, or how much would the higher resolution affect it?

Also, any ideas how that would impact the weight, since batteries are quite heavy and the Iconia A500 wasn’t exactly the lightest…
