Acer Iconia A1-830 7.9-inch tablet offers Intel Atom, IPS display

Acer has rolled out the red carpet for a new tablet, the Iconia A1-830. This 7.9-inch slate features an IPS display and Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean. The tablet boasts several bragging points, among them being a long battery life and slight profile, both of which accompany a design that aims to be both durable and stylish. The unit is slated to arrive in North America sometime this quarter for $149 USD.

According to Acer, the idea behind the Iconia A1-830 tablet is to offer an "optimized" Android slate that is aimed at the mostly budget-conscious market, something it achieved by tacking long battery life and promise of solid performance into the otherwise moderately-spec'd device. The body is made of aluminum, with the design being done in such a way to provide strength and rigidity to the slate, keeping it safe.

The 7.9-inch display has a modest resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, and is said to offer viewing angles up to 178-degrees (4:3 aspect ratio). Under the hood, the tablet runs an Intel Atom Z2560 1.6GHz processor alongside 1GB of RAM, the sum total of which results in 7.5 hours of battery life on a charge. There are dual speakers, 16GB of storage, micro SD slot, a rear camera with 1080p recording, and front camera with 720p recording. Connectivity is 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0.

Said Acer's Director of Product Marketing of Connected Devices Paul Tayar: "Our fundamental goal when creating the Acer Iconia A1-830 was to provide our customers with an optimized Android tablet that stands out from other devices. Consumers expect more than ever from value-oriented products, and the Acer Iconia A1-830 tablet delivers outstanding performance and battery life, a bright IPS display and a more premium aluminum metal finish than is typically offered in tablets in this class."
