I just got one for $349 and it isn't as loud as everyone is saying it is. It is noticeably quieter than my xbox360. I would say it is about as quiet as my WD TV live, which works well with the projector. My only gripe is that it is not loud enough for me to watch movies.

This thing was so damn loud you couldn't deliver your presentation in front of customers and the worse part is it was a high pitched whinning noise comming out of the fan almost like a dentist drill. I tested it with an app db meter and it was at 48db from 3 feet away. It was downright intrusive and made it unusable. Overall the image quality actually was good.

Now is where it gets bad, despite reporting the problem withing 3 hours of recieving the unit, despite using it for less than 5 minutes just to test it out, despite finding a techbargains.com review complaining about 56db from 1 ft away, and realizing that this is a common problem, despite them claiming it is supposed to be less than 30db, when I returned it they are trying to charge me a restocking fee.

I ended up buying the lower resolution Optoma pk301 and dealing with video scaling, lower brightness and a more difficult to focus lense, but it works well and does not make a very loud noise.

I only wish I took a video of it before sending it back so you could hear just how loud and obnoxious it is.
