Yeah - the whole 'Symbian lacks apps'p arguement is boring. It's not that it lacks apps, the issue is that because Nokia has never strangled any developers the way Apple does, it means the apps are spread out across the web, as well as those found in Ovi store. Do a bit of looking and you'll see there's a multitude out there!

"What the platform lacks is apps. While there’s a decent selection of “table stakes” apps in the OVI store, the selection pales relative to the competition. If app selection is important, you might need to look elsewhere."

Why, though? From what I've read, Symbian ^3 is to be mostly compatible with the earlier editions of the system, starting in 2005. There are TONS of apps for Symbian and they do virtually anything you can imagi...well, that you could reasonably demand of them.

DO NOT CONFUSE the size of the official Nokia app store with the number of avaible apps. Many of them cannot be installed directly from Ovi, but that doesn't mean they don't exist or that they can't be found in 5 seconds using Google.

Nice article (pity it was quickly buried behind the camera reviews.)

A minor note on “…Two years ago, it would have blown everything else in the market away…” — well that is true for any high-end device, right? I would say, six months ago it would have blown everything else away — but it is only now coming to the market, when it will struggle to get noticed.

IMO, everything Nokia has been doing with its phones in the last year (starting with N900) has been in the right direction, however it always has come half a year too late to reap success. There is no excuse for that.
