I am purchasing a White Apple iPhone 4S this comming Friday Feb. 3rd, I will write back with the change from Android to iOS 5.0.1 ,…. I plan on buying Pages to use as my word processor ans WAZE for GPS,… I will also be using Siri, where I have been using vLingo on Android for talking,… I heard Siri is much more responsive. I also plan on Jailbreaking my iPhone like I have rooted my android for tethering ( I live in the middle of the country & have no other internet option ). So I will be back in a week to update how thing are on my new iPhone,…………… ;R

For me, the iOS platform is great for gaming and maybe occasional music listening (not buying, I hate iTunes and buy only from Amazon MP3). In other words, it’s a great toy. I use my iPod Touch for all that, no sense in wasting money on a phone and another phone contract. Real work and day-to-day stuff gets done on my Android.

Interesting read, but this would have been a far more interesting experiment for someone who wasn’t already in the apple ecosystem. If you already have an ipad, really the only major difference here is the phone part and the size. I’d like to see someone’s opinion coming from a purely android background to and iOS device… as in, no itunes account, no apps already purchased, etc.

I thought 4S would have a GPS app on top 10. It doesn’t have voice spoken direction like Google phones and my wife keeps calling me for directions.
I hope they integrate the Siri with some GPS app like Mapquest or whatever..
Personally its a tiny screen compared to new Androids and very slow in download speeds compared to LTE devices 10 times faster…

Shudder… but you can definitely see how iOS works really well, out of the box, for those who dont demand much.

My NFC tags just arrived, so I am off to play around with them… Something I’d no doubt miss if I was stuck with an iPhone. T’ain’t no app fer that!

I did the same thing basically. Been using an android phone for a year now and decided to try out an iphone 4s just for the sake of knowing how iOS works. Been enjoying the apps but the OS as a whole Fails :D, I still prefer android’s intuitiveness and freedom

I was shocked, and equally as pleased (!), that your 10 app list didn’t include Facebook. I was fully expecting to see FB app at the top of your list, with some description like “I downloaded Facebook app because I need FB! My life will end without FB! I need to check and update FB every 2 minutes or the sky will fall!! All hail FB. FB or die…” – you know, basically like how 98.9% of FB users generally talk (including the ubiquitous FB sheeplebots wandering around the office in a half-catatonic state who develop DTs if they haven’t been on FB in the last 5 minutes).

So, kudos to not having it in your 10 list, I’m glad there is someone (else) who doesn’t require FB to survive.

PS: Dont believe me? I sat on subway this morning (where there is almost no cell service) next to a dude who was frantically punching at his smartphone FB app every 5 seconds over and over and over trying desperately to ‘update’ FB despite the common knowledge that there is no signal. It’s like ‘dude, give it a rest for 10 minutes.’
