If they piss off Apple, they will stop getting exclusive press advances of Apple products, meaning less traffic to the site. They really have to be kind to new models of all the big players who keep them in business (Apple, Samsung, etc).

The smaller trash companies will keep throwing them products, however, in hopes to land a good review.

They can start having honest reviews of the iPad 3 in about 3-4 months.

Did you just skip to the comments section without even reading the article first? It clearly says that Apple tried to avoid shortages, and made sure to have enough for the initial rush that would also leave units left on the shelves. They admit that selling out quickly is horrible for business, what did you read?

You want to compare samsung note with iphone? Samsung note are targeted at different market fyi and see how successful it is despite the screen size. I myself doubt it if this device will ever sold that much seeing the size. Oh yeah you can bring along your 3.5″ to work and play it around to show it off while there are other people with 4″-4.8″ phone dont even need to show off because they know better.

So you’re saying that if one gadget made by one company has 70% of the market share, then it definitely does NOT have a stranglehold on the tablet market? Yeah, the Prime is a good product, but it sold about 1.8 million total in 2011, compared to the iPad 2′s 40 million.

And the WHOLE POINT of the article was that Apple finally got it’s supply chain to function well enough that it didn’t sell out. The iPad 2 sold a little over 1 million units on its opening weekend. The new iPad sold about 3 million its opening weekend, and this is somehow a step backward?

I guess we’ll see how much Windows 8 impacts the market, but I’d bet you an iPad that it doesn’t get even half the sales of iPads.

Simply because 90% of the population doesn’t care about customizing their device to the level Androids are capable of does not make them morons or sheep, nor does it make iOS devices junk, or even inferior. Do you honestly think that if someone understands what hdmi or 1080p means that they’re now smart enough to realize what a piece of crap the new iPad is? That they’re now kicking themselves for ever thinking it was a good product?

Maybe you’re right but at the same time the fact that an online retailer is the closest competition tells a lot about the warring condition. But let’s put that into perspective- it’s (Kindle Fire) a tablet thats sells for 1/2 the price of the cheapest iPad but somehow the new iPad in its third iteration (meaning there are those who already owns the two previous iterations and are less likely to buy another) still manages to chew half of Kindle Fire’s 6 month sale (I’m seeing a trend) in the span of a weekend.

You igadgets fan make me laugh. If the tablet war is over then how come there are still tons of companies making tablets? Millions of non-ipads are selling and they are currently taking nearly 30% of the tablet market. The kindle fire alone sold millions so far and continues to sell very well. The Transformer Prime continues to sell out everywhere it’s being sold and it’s been out for many months now. Apple can’t even sell out it’s ipad despite gazillions in marketing that apple put into.

The tablet market is still in it’s infancy and once microsoft gets in the game with windows 8, it will be a three horse race between android,microsoft and apple.

From a manufacturer’s point of view, the tablet war is probably over. If it isn’t can anyone quote the sale for the much touted Asus Transformer Prime or any of the Samsung Galaxy Tab. I remember reading somewhere that Samsung was over the moon when their Note sold 2 million in the span of 6 months (whereas the 4S sold twice that amount over a weekend).

As to MS- the only saviours for that company is MS Office and the Xbox division. And of course, the OEM Windows.

PC’s may have sold 1 million per day (many years ago), but I doubt those numbers, the PC’s were spread over ten or so companies and many of them were made in the USA, only a few companies had their hardware made overseas, and if they did they were made in Korea and Taiwan. You are kidding yourself if Apple has over saturated the market. Doubtfully in the USA, but we are less than 3% of the known world population.

Name one company that wouldn’t love to sell out their new product in one 24 hours period! Apple may have run out of product, but they can make 3 million more in another two weeks. Man, what an organization. I’m impressed! As far as faked shortages are concerned, the shortages are absolutely real. When you make 3 million widgets and ship them from China and they arrive at your doorstep in 5 business days, that ain’t fake. It took HTC two or three months to fulfill their original Incredible (I know because I bought one). The manufacturing capability of Apple’s Chinese partners is absolutely phenomenal to me. If you read Steve Job’s bio you will understand his reasons for choosing China for manufacturing, and its primarily due to their ability to adapt to engineering challenges that we in the USA can’t compete against. I doubt that there is any company out there that can plan, produce and ship any better than what Apple has done with their partners in China. You naysayers need to at least give Apple the credit they deserve.

I disagree with you. It seems Apple should have the capability to meet the demand for its products. With the launch of the Xbox 360, Microsoft walked dangerously close to not being able to meet demand, but they quickly revamped their supply chain and have not had any supply issues since then. And the Xbox 360 happens to sell just as well as the iPad. So if Microsoft can meet the demands of millions in just a day, then I don’t see why Apple can’t do it. They most definitely do have the resources to match Microsoft’s ability to meet demand.

The Lumia 900 is one of the highest rated Windows Phones and was awarded best smartphone at CES. As for the Zune HD, it actually did get great reviews particularly because it pioneered high resolution OLED displays and support high definition content with its dual-core nVidia Tegra CPU which also has a 6-core GPU, something that the iPod Touch wouldn’t have for 2 more generations when it finally got the retina display and a fast enough processor to handle HD content. In fact, all this buzz about the new iPad’s multi-core GPU is really nothing new since the Zune HD had it awhile ago.

As for the Kin, I don’t have a lot of experience or knowledge on it. It seems Microsoft tried to erase all history about it. I do understand why it was a failure. Which is why with Windows Phone, Microsoft knew not to make the same mistakes again. So far, Windows Phone got pretty great ratings and its market sharing is slowly but surely increasing. With the release of Windows 8, assuming Microsoft plays their cards carefully, they could become the number one tech company again like they were in the 90′s and early 2000′s.

As the competition gets “serious” Apple can no longer afford to manufacture fake shortages for marketing purposes is what the title of article should be. I mean really, like Apple could not come up with adequate supplies in the past? It’s just that now the consumer has a good alternative in Andriod tablets the supply chain is now “magicly” full of ipads even though the tablet market is much bigger now. Yeah, i’ll drink that koolaid, “Apple couldn’t keep up with demand when the market was much smaller but now that theres much more demand”… what a joke. It’s the way Apple manipulates the naive that has me so disgusted with them!

The supply chain has been stressed BC its the largest company in the world, growing at 70-100% annually. It sold $46B last quarter, beating sales growth estimates by $8.6B (thats 50% of microsoft).

So yeah, “the supply chain finally got serious”. What an idiotic statement.

PCs used to sell above the 1 million a day mark for entire years. So if everyone that wants one can walk in a buy one, then obviously we are seeing the first hint of iPad saturation. THAT is the story. There were stores without any lines at all. While that is refreshing because it may signal some rebound in sanity, it does appear that Apple product launches are just routine.

The other story? How many people even tried to get Windows for Tablet PC in any manner or form, including with hardware? Now, how many downloads for Windows 8 have there been? Starting to see more of the picture now?
