A fifth of Wintek branch workers on strike, may hamper Apple and Nokia production [Video]

Wintek happens to be the screen supplier for Apple, Nokia, and other major companies.  At a rather inopportune moment, roughly 2,000 out of 10,000, a fifth of workers at the Taiwanese company's East China branch have been going on strike over a rumored cancellation of bonuses as well as the usage of n-hexane, a banned substance used for cleaning LCDs (and possibly causing the death and paralysis of several workers in 2009).  A video has been captured of the riots, happening near the factories – see below.

It's not quite apparent yet how as to how much this will impact production, as Wintek is claiming that haven't used n-hexane since August and have reassured that bonuses will be handed out to their workers.

Nevertheless, you don't need to have a grasp of any Chinese to see that this strike cum riot is pretty severe.  We hope that the workers and management get together and work these problems out, since if they don't, the likes of Apple and Nokia won't be able to supply their devices for long.
