Agree with you about Apple beign a major harware developer and its obvious next step; but my point is towards those critics who give reasons of why or why not a product will be a success. As an early example, when there were rummors of Apple developing a tablet, most critics asked: Do we need a Super Sized Iphone?. Many predicted the Ipad to be a failure. History repeats once again.

My point exactly. Its just a matter of time before people watch the company tank. Either by way of burning cash like you said, or by stock market watchdogs who are currently investigating both the IPO underwriters and Nasdaq.

While I agree that a Facebook phone is a bad idea, that doesn’t mean Facebook isn’t dumb enough to try it. They dropped a cool billion on Instagram of all things. Now after their IPO they have money to burn, and seem determined to get into the mobile space. Believe me, Facebook is dumb enough to try it. They’ll make literally burning money look like a good investment compared to what they’re going to do with it. If not a phone, they’ll go on a shopping spree of tech startups, each of which they’ll likely ruin.

I agree with you 100%, but there is more to it then Americans just being lazy. Part of the issue is that some over seas jobs could be brought here, and labor costs is not even the issue. The issue is government taxation and the plethora of laws a business has to deal with that over seas factories do not. Simply, our government in fact does NOT support a friendly business environment.

The argument here friend IS “self-evident”. And our only point is that history, as a crystal ball can point to several other similar technological failures. And please, you might want to get off your sanctimonious wannabee tech blogger high horse. I unlike you, probably do work for a genuine tech company, and don’t just play “the worlds smallest violin” for Facebook.

There’s plenty of jobs here in the US. It’s just most Americans are lazy and incredibly picky. I have a friend who is always looking for employees. He pays well, but people don’t wanna get their hands dirty. Plus a lot of the foreigners here do all te dirty work and don’t complain about not getting a raise. Do you wanna clean toilets and take out the trash? Then stop complaining about foreigners taking our jobs.

There’s a huge difference. Apple was already dominating the mp3 market with the iPod. When Apple unveiled the iPhone, it wasn’t just a smartphone, it was a phone with an iPod that was a touchscreen and it was a one of a kind back then. And there were a lot more praises from critics than negative ones.

Now, Facebook is a social network website, this is way out of their league. It’s like when ESPN came out with an ESPN phone, which completely bombed.

Not so. Lets not forget that Apple was already a major hardware developer and leading pioneer in the Tech field. A phone was only the likely next step for them. And as for your theory – that Facebook can become a credible cellphone competitor, is simply false. Lest you simply maintain your only probable point that invisible ad revenues and highly speculated NASDAQ shares will make things happen for them. Not so friend, not so.

I’m amazed to hear these critics talking like they know what works or not. I remember not long ago most critics bashing Apple for comming out with a cell phone. What does Apple knows about cell phones? some critics asked. Some said how and why an Apple cellp hone would fail; and other said it would not survive against major cellphone manufacturers like Nokia, Motorola etc…
