Here we go with another week in review. Monday IDC released their data on the number of CPUs shipped for Q3 2009. The number of CPUS shipped grew 23% for the quarter compared to the previous year. ZiiLABS unveiled its new ZMS-08 Blu-ray quality media processor this week. The processor promises to be full 1080p HD video support and more for portable devices like tablets.

Remember all the furore back in August, when Microsoft announced they’d locked up Netflix movie streaming for the Xbox 360 and basically told us it was an “exclusive” partnership?  Well, that exclusivity seems to have been short-lived; Sony have announced that from November Netflix subscribers will be able to stream content on their PS3.

Good ol' Steve Ballmer has been known to let the cat out of the bag a few times with new items and accessories coming from Redmond. This week Ballmer seemingly hinted that Microsoft would be offering up a Blu-ray accessory for the Xbox 360. That was a surprising little hint considering Microsoft has long said it would not bring Blu-ray to the Xbox.

xbox 360 hd dvd 125x147 customOne of the ongoing frustrations for Xbox 360 owners is the absence of a Blu-ray accessory; they keep pestering Microsoft for one, and Microsoft keep rolling out the same “we have no plans” excuses.  Now, finally, the company appears to be changing its tune, though it takes some between-the-lines reading of outspoken CEO Steve Ballmer in order to fathom it.  Talking to Gizmodo, Ballmer told interviewer Wilson Rothman that “you’ll be able to get Blu-ray drives as accessories”.

It’s hard to believe it is October already and the leaves are already falling off the trees. Another week come and gone and today I am back with another week in review for your perusal. We found out early this week that the Palm Pre is still headed to Verizon according to an insider. The alleged insider didn’t give any word on when exactly this may happen.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has confirmed that the company does not see its movie streaming service as remaining exclusively locked to Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console, and that one day they envisage access from every games console, Blu-ray player and internet-connected TV.  Speaking to Reuters this week, Hastings also suggested that an iPhone Netflix service was “likely to come over time”, though the company’s focus is not yet on mobile.

Nintendo regularly quash Wii HD rumors, but they keep on coming back.  Latest to reignite the speculation is none other than Square Enix chief Yoichi Wada, who has stuck his neck out and suggested 2011 as the launch window for the reworked console.  Wada tips the new Wii HD as having many of the features as the Xbox 360 and PS3, to which we're assuming he's referring to media-centric functionality.

Well they say time files when you are having fun, but they never mention how fast time flies when you are typing your fingers to bleeding nubs to bring your wonderful readers all the gadget news fit to print and then some. Here we are again with another week in review for your reading pleasure. Spotify hit iPhone and Android devices this week. So many people grabbed the app that the free service quickly went back to invite only status. Sony unveiled a super-thin new wireless HDTV this week that makes Paris Hilton look fat by comparison. I am almost afraid to find out what the thin and feature packed set will cost.

Did’t I just finish writing a week in review? That time again already? Ok, so here we go! Asus’ Eee netbook roadmap leaked this week showing us some of the new machines Asus has up its sleeves and tipping us off on the netbooks already on the market that will be going extinct soon. SanDisk got all official and stuff with a new low-end MP3 player called the Sansa Clip+. The thing gains a microSD card slot to accommodate that big bag of fail known as slotMusic.
