The increasingly popular stereoscopic 3D technologies are everywhere, from live sport, PC and gaming console to the upcoming Blu-ray equipped player, but all of them require wearing a stereoscopic glasses that many have reluctant to try. It’s not about appearance, though it looks silly in some way, but what happen you’ve lost the glasses when the entertainment is calling on you? 3DFusion has the answer, how about a GLASSES-FREE 3D display?
There’ve been a few 3D TVs and displays in the press recently, some requiring special glasses and some not, and today Mitsubishi, NVIDIA and Aspen Media Products have announced their collaboration on a home theatre system offering straightforward access to both 3D hardware and content. Based on the Aspen Media Server, basically an HTPC with huge storage capacity and 1080p high-def graphics, the new range will use NVIDIA’s GeForce FX Go graphics (and specifically their 3D stereoscopic capabilities) together with Mitsubishi’s 3D-ready Home Theater HDTVs.
French imaging company Alioscopy have apparently been drawing crowds at the Singaporean CommunicAsia expo with their 3D display that requires no special glasses be worn by the viewer. Measuring 40-inches, the demo display has a price-tag of $10,526 and uses an optical filter-coated panel and specially encoded 3D videos that combine multiple perspectives into the same picture.
Somewhat at the opposite end of the size-scale from Telson’s UMPC prototype, Philips have developed their own glasses-free 3D display. Using a whopping 52-inch LCD panel, the screen can display full 1920 x 1080 high-definition, has a 2,000:1 contrast ratio and 8ms response time. More importantly, it combines that with Philips 3D Solutions’ WOWvx technology, described as a “2D-plus-Depth” format, which adds additional occlusion information into the picture to give the impression of being able to “look around” what’s on-screen.
