Fujitsu LifeBook UH900 multitouch MID coming January [Updated]

Fujitsu have always been partial to tiny computers – the LifeBook U8×0 series still rank as some of the most appealing UMPCs around – and their latest model certainly looks endearing at first glance. The Fujitsu LifeBook UH900 has a more traditional clamshell form-factor than the mini-convertibles in the company’s back-catalog, but more than makes up with it with a 5.6-inch sunlight-readable WXGA multitouch display, 62GB SSD and optional integrated 3.5G WWAN.

Qt 4.6 with multitouch released plus second Maemo 5 tech preview [Video]

qt logo Nokia have pushed Qt 4.6 out of the door, complete with support for multitouch and gestures, a new Animation Framework, and a new OpenGL paint engine. The app and UI framework also gains compatibility with a broader range of platforms, including Windows 7, OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, Symbian and Maemo 6. Meanwhile Maemo 5 support continues to develop, with Nokia releasing a second technology preview today.

HTC HD2 multitouch API offers true gesture support [Video]

HTC’s injection of multitouch support into the HTC HD2 is one of the things that most impressed us about the smartphone, but so far the company have been reluctant to share the magic with third-party developers. One of the oft-missed benefits of Windows Mobile, however, is a huge developer community who’ll go in and dig out what they’re not being given, and xda-developers’ l3v5y has come up with an API for multitouch.

“Wow! So you just pull two fingers apart on the screen to zoom in on the site?” This was my mother’s reaction last week to seeing the power of pinch-to-zoom on her new iPhone 3GS. Yes, just last week my mother, a successful business woman but a technophobe at heart, discovered that the iPhone has a little thing called multitouch! You know, that small feature that made Apple’s first phone go down in cellphone history. And her amazement didn’t stop there; she was blown away by every phone feature from the Notes application’s “cute” handwriting font to the “cool” animation of the trash can that sucks down messages like a “garbage disposal.”

K.R.T. X9 joins list of multitouch tablets we can’t buy

Somebody needs to rent a boat, sail to China and pick up a hold-full of unknown touchscreen tablets; it's getting more than a little frustrating seeing what's on offer over there, and having so little choice in the US and Europe. Latest to tickle our collective fancy is the K.R.T. X9 from Shenzhen K.R.T. Technology, a 10-inch multitouch slate running Windows 7 on an Intel Atom N270 processor. The X9 packs WCDMA, TD-SCDMA and CDMA2000 3G, pretty much covering all the bases, together with WiFi a/b/g.

HTC HD2 arrives on T-Mobile UK from free

T-Mobile UK are the latest carrier to offer the HTC HD2, with the Snapdragon-based Windows Phone priced from free with a £35 ($58) per month, two-year agreement. It makes T-Mobile the third carrier to offer the device in the UK, following launches by Vodafone and O2. As usual, buyers get a 4.3-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen with multitouch support, a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, and Windows Mobile 6.5.

SlashGear Week in Review – Week 47 2009

Week in review time again, here we go! The Lenovo IdeaPad Pineview netbook hit the FCC Monday. The FCC is one of the most prolific leaker of gadgets and gear around and we love them for it. The CrunchPad is now said to be steamrolling toward a launch and may have a sponsorship deal in place. Word was a few weeks back that the tablet was dead.

Dell Studio 17 Touch adds multitouch to monster notebook

If you fancy one of Dell’s new multitouch capable computers, but want both the portability of a notebook and the scale of a desktop, then the new Dell Studio 17 Touch might fit the bill. As the name suggests, the notebook has a 17.3-inch 1,600 x 900 display with mutlitouch support, as well as up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, processors ranging from 2.1GHz Pentium dual-core T4300 up through to Core i7 processors, and of course Windows 7 as the OS.

MSI Wind Top AE2220 all-in-one packs 1080p and multitouch

MSI have pushed out another all-in-one in its Wind Top line, and this one offers both Full HD 1080p support and a touchscreen. The MSI Wind Top AE2220 has a 21.5-inch 16:9 display running at 1,920 x 1,080, multitouch support, a choice of Intel’s 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo T6600 or 2.1GHz Pentium dual-core T4300 processors, and NVIDIA Ion graphics.

Adobe Flash Player 10.1 Beta and AIR 2 released

Adobe have pushed their Flash Player 10.1 Beta out of the door, together with Adobe AIR 2, with the Windows version of the new Flash runtime supporting H.264 hardware acceleration. The Mac and Linux 10.1 prereleases are yet to support that, and so far there’s no sign of a smartphone release as Adobe promised back in October; Adobe have confirmed, though, that the webOS beta for the Palm Pre and Pixi will appear sometime this year.
