Axiotron Modbooks get cheaper

Axiotron's Modbook has long been the only semi-official way to get an Apple tablet, with the company taking a pre-unibody MacBook and swiftly twisting it into a Wacom-enabled touchscreen slate. While we loved our review unit, we weren't too keen on the high price; happily OWC - one of Axiotron's official distribution and conversion agents - have announced a slash of both new and conversion pricing.

Spring Design Alex gets hands-on; shows off new Marvell ARMADA 166E ebook SoC

Whether or not Barnes and Noble liked it enough to copy it, Spring Design’s Alex prototype dual-display ebook reader is certainly nifty enough to capture our interest. MaximumPC had a chance to go hands-on with the Alex, which has a 6-inch e-ink screen up top and a 3.5-inch color capacitive touchscreen underneath for control and navigation, as part of a Marvell demonstration for the company’s new ARMADA 166E SoC.

Lenovo X200 Tablet Review

There’s no doubting that multitouch is a key buzzword of today, and with the arrival of Windows 7 PCs gain at least software support for two-fingered control. Lenovo have responded by updating their well-esteemed ThinkPad X200 Tablet with Windows 7 and a new, multitouch-friendly display, the former as standard and the latter a paid option. Entourage eDGe dualbook combines netbook, notepad, and eReader in one cool package

I am a big fan of convergence, within reason. I don’t care fro say a camera on my iPod; I don’t see much use for that personally. I would like to see a usable converged device for surfing the net and reading eBooks though. I want it with a larger screen than something like the Kindle though. A company called Entourage Systems has unveiled a new gadget that has my geek lust quite stoked called the enTourage eDGe.

Apple new MacBook, iMac, Mac mini, Mighty Mouse & multitouch desktop tablet imminent?

Apple may be riding high on another successful financial quarter, but we still wouldn’t put it past them to announce a few new products this week in order to stick a spoke in the wheels of Windows 7’s launch. According to man-in-the-know John Gruber, it’s not a product trickle but a flood we should be expecting, with both new notebooks and desktops together with multitouch-compatible peripherals on the cards.

Fujitsu F-Series All-in-Ones and MT Tablet get multitouch plus versions for the elderly

It’s not just the LOOX C CULV notebooks new from Fujitsu today; the company have also outed a number of desktops and notebooks, some supporting multitouch touchscreens. The range kicks off with the TV-alike Fujitsu F-Series, a range of 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo P8700 all-in-ones with either 20-inch 1600 x 900 or 23-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD multitouch displays. Meanwhile the Fujitsu F/ER-Series desktops are specially-customized versions of the F-range, intended for elderly users whom the company hopes will find its tweaked UI more usable.

SlashGear Week in Review – Week 39 2009

In case you missed something this week, it’s time for another week in review for you to enjoy on a lazy Sunday. Asus quietly let the Eee 1201N Ion netbook slip from the bowels of the netbook kingpin. The machine sports NVIDIA Ion power, it’s nice to see more Ion netbooks coming to market. Acer has its line of smartphones coming in Q4 according to reports early this week. The Acer F1 and the HTC Leo will hit in Q4.

Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch reviewed: decent entry-level tablet

Wacom may have only made their new Bamboo tablet range official yesterday, but eagle-eyed early adopters have been picking them up in stores for over a week now. BestTabletReview have been putting the Bamboo Pen & Touch Fun – which has both an active digitizer stylus for precise control and artwork, and a multitouch layer for recognizing finger-touch and gestures – through its paces, compared to Wacom’s well-considered Graphite tablet.

Wacom Bamboo tablets get official: multitouch and pen input

Wacom have finally got around to officially announcing [pdf link] their Bamboo Touch multitouch tablet, a week after at least one person was able to pick one up from their local Best Buy. The Wacom Bamboo Touch is one of the company’s second generation of the Bamboo line, which also includes the Bamboo Pen & Touch, which responds both to a pen stylus (for accuracy) as well as fingers. The tablet automatically switches between the two modes, depending on whether the user has touched the surface with their finger or if the stylus nib is near.

TabletKiosk is one of those names we’ve not heard for a while, but the touchscreen-centric firm is back with three new Intel Atom based slates. The TabletKiosk eo a7330D UMPC and eo TufTab a7230XD are both 7-inch ultraportables with dual-type active/passive digitizers, meaning you can use either your finger or a more accurate stylus, while the Sahara NetSlate a230T is a 12.1-inch entry-level Tablet PC.
