It’s not supposed to reach Verizon Wireless stores until June 5th, but that hasn’t stopped buyers persuading the carrier’s reps to sell them the LG enV Touch XV11000 a little early. HowardForums member 91ZCpe managed it, and shot some hands-on photos of the twin-display QWERTY clamshell.
Verizon took their FiOS DVR control to a whole new level today when they introduced a mobile web version of their FiOS TV Central feature. Before today, you could only access this feature through your desktop web browser or on select LG phones that featured a native app for it like the Voyager or the enV 2.
But now, the update makes it so any phone that has a decent web browser can access the FiOS TV Central feature. This allows you to program your IPTV recorder while you’re away from home. You can even use it on non-Verizon phones like the iPhone.
Other aspects of this new feature include the ability to add or remove shows from your recording line up, manage up to three DVRs and more. You can access this latest FiOS TV Central feature for free. Though it’s currently in beta, the full version should be available soon.
Having seen photos of the LG VX9600 Versa only this morning, now we have news on its release date. According to the latest information from Best Buy Mobile’s inventory system, the innovative device – which has a removable QWERTY keyboard and promises add-on gamepad, stereo speaker and WiFi modules – will land on February 22nd 2009.
Apparently that rumor from not too long ago that Verizon and Vodafone had worked out a deal to bring the Croix stateside came to fruition. Technically its called the Samsung u940 but really its just a Croix converted to CDMA for use on Verizon’s network.
Alright, before we get into the decent sized list of bugs the update fixes, lets start by letting you know that you’ll have to take your Voyager to a Verizon store to get the update. Also, its probably a good idea to call ahead to the store you plan on going to, to make sure they have the update ready to apply, but don’t go to maps.google.com in order to look for the closest store, your Voyager could reset when you do that.
So, lets start with the issues V CAST was having with memory cards 4GB and larger, that’s fixed, as is the ability to reset the V CAST Mobile TV app, which you can now reset it. The power settings have been updated to lengthen battery life, and there were enhancements made to Bluetooth which should net you better audio quality, easier pairing, and key tones.
Being on the road this weekend really gave me an opportunity to test out the new LG Voyager from Verizon Wireless. The handset takes a similar form factor to the Sidekick but is neither as long nor as tall – making it much more enjoyable to use as a phone. It dawned on me Saturday morning that I desperately needed a haircut! I had my laptop and a few other options (even a phone book) to find a shop nearby that was open on a Saturday morning.
Using VZ Navigator on the LG Voyager was much easier than flipping through a phone book or accessing other online services such as Google Maps. I had the option to call the business directly to find out price and availability, and if I found one open, I could simply have the Voyager map out and guide me there. The new LG Venus is being a bit overshadowed by bigger wireless releases this holiday season, such as the Verizon’s own Voyager. But this touchscreen, slider phone really stands out once you get your hands on it. We’ve got the unboxing video for you, together with a quick comparison to the Voyager.
Just in time for the holiday season is one of Verizon’s most highly anticipated phones – the Voyager by LG. LG is looking to knock the iPhone out its top spot with the Voyager’s dual screen displays (large external touch-screen and slightly smaller screen when flipped open), 2.0 megapixel camera, VZ Navigator, a microSD memory slot which can support up to 8GB of additional memory and full QWERTY keypad.
The Voyager is all about video and music. It offers V Cast Video, Verizon Wireless’ multimedia service with news, sports and entertainment video clips, 3D games, V Cast Music and V Cast Mobile TV.
So you finally get your very own iPhone competitor, obviously the next logical step is to drop your data plan prices to match those of AT&T too. That’s pretty much what Verizon did, but while they were at it, they figured they’d go ahead and re-price just about the entire data plan line-up.
The only thing I don’t think got a price change was the unlimited data plan for smartphones. Lucky for you they aren’t counting the new LG Voyager as a smartphone, so it gets the new cheaper data plan.
The Christmas season looks set to be a hot one, with Apple’s iPhone coming under attack from the Samsung F700 (our review of which is coming very soon) and Verizon’s Voyager. Both touchscreen cellphones, one a slider and the other a clamshell; we showed you preview footage of the Voyager from the carrier’s booth at CTIA but until now we’ve only had relatively scant details of the phone’s capabilities. Well that’s all changed, after a leaked data sheet has flaunted the Voyager’s innards across the internet.
