Vodafone UK have announced that they will be offering Sony Ericsson’s first Android smartphone, the XPERIA X10, come April 2010.  The handset – which made its official debut back in November 2009 – has seen various suggested release dates, including one quickly-removed date on Sony Ericsson’s own site, but until now nothing official.

Over at xda-developers they're pathologically addicted to getting software to run on devices it was never intended to, and fed up of waiting for Sony Ericsson's debut into the Android ecosystem, the XPERIA X10, they've focused instead on getting Android onto an earlier phone.  Normally the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 is found playing nicely with Windows Mobile, but you can now dual-boot it with that and Android 2.0.1.

Having been prematurely revealed yesterday, Sony Ericsson have officially announced the Vivaz S60 smartphone, the device formerly known as the Kurara.  Expected to drop in Q1 2010, the Vivaz has an 8.1-megapixel autofocus camera capable of 720p HD video recording, 3G and WiFi.  A couple of European bloggers have already managed to grab some hands-on time with the phone.

htc bravo leak live 375x500Out of all the smartphones on HTC’s leaked 2010 roadmap, undoubtedly the most interesting was the HTC Bravo.  A device strikingly similar to the Google Nexus One, complete with HSDPA/HSUPA connectivity, a 3.7-inch touchscreen and a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, the Bravo also throws HTC’s well-esteemed Sense UI into the mixture.  Now one of the first images of the Bravo in the wild has turned up.

With it comes the first tidbit of carrier information we’ve heard; according to Omio the Bravo (which may get a different name by the time it arrives on shelves) is headed to T-Mobile.  They reckon it’ll land from free on contracts £35 ($57) or above, presumably with a two-year agreement.

Having broken cover for the first time yesterday, we’ve now got a second in-the-wild sighting of the Sony Ericsson Robyn, believed to be the company’s “mini” version of the XPERIA X10.  Over at French site PointGPhone they’ve snapped the Robyn cavorting with an iPhone, and looking seriously dwarfed in the process.

Now here’s an interesting little leak for Sony Ericsson aficionados: GSMArena have been sent a couple of in-the-wild shots of what’s tipped to be the Sony Ericsson Robyn (presumably an internal codename), a mini version of the XPERIA X10.  Details on the new smartphone are scant, though we know it has a touchscreen and runs Android.

Canadian carrier Rogers Wireless has become the first to announce it will be offering the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, though neither carrier nor company are yet saying exactly when the Android smartphone will arrive.  Set to go on sale sometime in Q2 2010 – later than Sony Ericsson told us back at the handset’s launch – the XPERIA X10 will be a Rogers exclusive in the country, and will apparently “make its North American debut first in Canada”.

There’s no real new technical data in this latest video of Sony Ericsson’s unreleased XPERIA X10, but it does give us a chance to see the Android smartphone cavorting with HTC’s HD2, Samsung’s Omnia II and that perennial favorite, the iPhone 3GS.  Size-wise, if you thought the HD2 was too big then you should probably cancel your XPERIA X10 preorder, as the two look pretty darn similar; in fact, as the video after the cut shows, the X10 is actually a little chubbier than HTC’s WinMo finest.

Don’t let anybody tell you the cellphone industry is ruled by anything other than pricing.  Mobile-Review have been playing with the Sony Ericsson Kurara and we’re going to spoil the ending for you: if it’s priced at €300 ($448) it should be a winner; if it’s more like €400 ($597) then it’ll land flat on its touchscreen face.
