Dell’s Adamo XPS is certainly a striking piece of tech – any notebook that thin is going to grab our attention, and that’s before you add in a spytastic touch-strip to open it – but it turns out the company had even more ambitious plans initially. PC World managed to score some time with some of Dell’s Adamo XPS prototypes, including versions with multitouch LCD trackpads and even a zero-profile touchscreen keyboard.
We can’t say we looked at the Sharp Mebius NJ70A netbook – with its nifty touchscreen trackpad – and thought “what this needs is a second touchscreen”, but then we’re not SKY at UMPC Fever. After unboxing the N270-based netbook, he loaded up Windows 7 and then installed a touchscreen layer so as to use handwriting recognition direct onto the 10-inch display.

Sharp’s Mebius NJ70A is still too rich for our blood – $1,000 or thereabouts is simply too much to pay for a netbook, no matter how slick its touchscreen trackpad - but that doesn’t mean we’re not interested in lapping up all the information about the distinctive ultraportable that we can. UMPC Fever have acquired one of the Atom N270 netbooks and promptly shot a video unboxing.

It’s Monday morning, so what better way to start the day than with two netbooks most people can’t officially buy. Sharp’s Mebius NJ70A is one such device, complete with a touchscreen display in place of a traditional trackpad and Intel’s Atom N270 CPU, while the 1.86GHz Sony VAIO P25G has the faster Atom Z540 processor currently unavailable through official channels in the US. It’s been a week of mobile device reviews, along with the Bluetooth accessories that go with them, here at SlashGear, with Samsung’s Tocco Ultra S8300 and Instinct S30 showing up for playtime. Sharp’s Mebius NJ70A could be hitting US shores sooner than we expected, with the news that importer Dynamism have listed the netbook. The Mebius has a special multitouch-capable LCD touchscreen trackpad, which can be used as a secondary 4-inch display or a way to control media playback, games or other software.
Sharp have been pretty quiet on the netbook front, but that’s set to change with the launch of the Sharp Mebius PC-NJ70A next month. Delivering what many netbook manufacturers find impossible – something unique in the segment – the Mebius PC-NJ70A’s special trick is a 4-inch 854 x 480 flush-fitting touchscreen trackpad, which can not only be used for controlling the mouse but as a secondary sub-display.
