spotify mobile for s60Streaming music-on-demand service Spotify threw the radio cat among the Nokia pigeons back in September, when it announced a S60 mobile client was on the way.  It’s taken a few months, but now that client has been released, bringing Spotify to more than thirty devices running the S60 OS; that’s not just Nokia handsets, either, since Spotify have made the necessary tweaks to get the app running on some S60 devices from other companies, such as the Samsung Omnia HD and the Sony Ericsson Satio.

samsung omnia b7330 smartphoneSamsung have announced a new Windows Mobile smartphone and promised a lease of new life for several other existing models, each of which will get an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5.  The new Samsung Omnia Pro B7330 is a straightforward QWERTY-toting candybar running Windows Mobile 6.5 Standard, and pretty much takes the core of the B7320 and slaps a 320 x 320 display and HSUPA support into the handset.

Meanwhile the five existing Samsung Omnia models currently on sale – which means the i8000, B7320, B7300, B7330 and B7610 – are all getting an update to the newest version of Microsoft’s smartphone OS, v6.5.  That’s new handsets sold, incidentally; existing owners of the Omnia II, B7610 and B7320 will be eligible for an update from 6.1 to WinMo 6.5.

crysis on iphoneTemped by Crysis on the iPhone?  Even with its most recent processor and graphics boost, Apple’s 3GS smartphone isn’t quite up to that level, but OTOY have been showing off how, thanks to AMD’s next-gen GPUs, they can squirt Crysis-level HD gaming across a network to your mobile.  AMD demonstrated their next-gen platform’s 2.5 teraFLOPS of floating-point power and DirectX 11 abilities this week, and OTOY were on hand to show Ars Technica just how they’re using all that power.

Amazon is pretty much a bastion of information at this point, isn’t it? Things keep popping up on their site, both locally and globally that would lead most manufacturers to pull their hair out in frustration. And while we’re sure that this time around, in regards to Samsung, no one is all that upset with the phone finding its way to the digital shelves, we’re sure that someone has to be upset. Or maybe angry at the world. Because that’s the only realistic way the Omnia II could have acquired a price like this.

TouchWiz wasn't the greatest. TouchWiz 2.0 was a huge leap in the right direction. But there was always going to be something holding back Samsung from taking any steps forward in the mobile marketplace, and it had nothing to do with proprietary software on their phones. They lacked what everyone else and their second-cousin has: a way to get first- and third-party developed applications onto their phones. Well, it looks like that's about to change.

Another week has come and gone leaving us with memories and a hoard of cool stories to throw your way for weekend reading in case you missed them over the week. An Asus 900HA netbook was hacked into a touchscreen slate on Monday and we really liked it. DIY gear is so cool, especially when it turns out this good. Monday also brought some details on the Blackberry Storm 2 piezo touchscreen tech. We really hope its better than the original Storm.
