Sony Ericsson have finally come clean on their latest smartphone, and as expected it’s an Android flagship. The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 – previously known as the Rachael and the X3 – is a Snapdragon-based touchscreen candybar, with a huge display, 8.1-megapixel camera and some “special sauce” in the shape of two homegrown applications – for communication aggregation and media aggregation – with a custom UI. SlashGear caught up with Sony Ericsson in London yesterday to take a look at the new smartphone, and find out why the company reckons this is the launch not only of the Android X10 but of a new “user experience platform”.

Sony Ericsson's Aino smartphone arrived in the UK earlier this month, but would-be buyers looking on enviously from the US are now able to sate their touchscreen desires.  The 8.1-megapixel handset has gone on sale online and at Sony Style stores in the US today, priced at $599.99 unlocked, offering a 3-inch 432 x 240 touchscreen, WiFi, 3G (UMTS 850/1900/2100) and Bluetooth.

It’s taken a while, but Sony Ericsson’s Satio and Aino cellphones are finally hitting shelves, at least in the UK.  The two touchscreen handsets were first announced back in May – you can see our hands-on videos with each after the cut – and aim to deliver both entertainment and communication.  The Aino (seen here in its bundled dock) can stream content from a PlayStation 3 via the Sony Remote Play system, while the Satio (previously known as the SE Idou) packs a 16:9 3.5-inch touchscreen and 12.1-megapixel autofocus camera.

Well, it’s “been rumored“, it’s been “teased“, and there’s even been “a little bit of a pre-order situation going on over at Kmart,” but up until now, Sony has been all but against the thought of a slim PlayStation 3. It looks things are changing though, and for the better. As that Kmart pre-order screen shows us, the slim PS3 will boast a 120GB hard drive, come bundled with a DualShock 3 controller, as well as an HDMI port that supports 1080p high definition.

The weekend is here again fellow geeks and geekettes so I am back with another week in review. Monday more rumors surfaced that has Apple launching that long anticipated tablet device this November. The rumors further claim that the tablet will be aimed at gaming and media use. Early this week Verizon cut the pricing on all its smartphones save a few of the new ones to $99. That makes us think lots of new smartphone hardware is on its way.

Sony’s VAIO P was never the netbook many people expected it to be – its unusual screen aspect, stand-out form-factor and high sticker price meant it never quite competed with the regular Atom N270 netbook crowd – so the company is back with a far more mainstream alternative.  The Sony VAIO W is an “internet book” with a 10.1-inch screen and Intel’s typical N270 1.6GHz processor.

Update: It’s official for the US; more details after the cut
