We were only talking earlier on today about Pegatron’s Smartbook plans, and then along comes Shanzai with a quick hands-on report with one of the company’s first models.  There’s no telling whether this is merely a prototype or something we’ll see in Q1 2010 with a brand-name plastered across it, but we do know it was featured at ARM’s “Technical Symposium 2009″ in Taipei this week.

Pegatron’s Smartbook prototype has made another appearance, this time squaring up to one of ASUS’ Eee PC models in order to flaunt its slender chassis.  The Smartbook – here in touching, emotionally-available, secure-in-its-own-masculinity pink – is considerably thinner than a netbook (the 1005HA) that until now has helped lead the pack in terms of slimline scale, and it’s not an unfair battery comparison either.  The Pegatron may only have a 2-cell, 4,400mAh battery, but thanks to the low-voltage components inside it’s rated for around eight hours runtime.

Joining Wistron’s N900z on the Freescale Semiconducters Computex stand is this netbook from Pegatron.  Running an Freescale IMX51 800MHz ARM-based CPU and Xandros Linux OS, the most interesting aspects of the ultraportable are its super-skinny profile and long, eight-hour battery life.
