CES Unveiled is a press only event tonight where several vendors will be showing their wares prior to CES. This is great for the press because it allows us to get more coverage of everything that will be at the show and it also allows us to mingle more closely with the vendors without them having to worry about impressing the consumers that get into the show.

Niveus Media Inc.’s Denali Limited Edition took the lead in the video components this year at CES. It has video scaling up to 1080p, 2TB of storage and 7.1 audio.

They also won and honoree in home theater accessories for their Sierra Edition.

There has been talk around the interweb that Microsoft is bringing back the Windows Media Extender. Currently there are only three companies that they are working with to bring you such devices. One such company is Niveus Media.

So, Microsoft, yeah the giants that hide behind Redmond, WA, the very same ones, have finally decided to catch up with everyone else and begin supporting DivX and Xvid in some of their devices. I know, I know, I said “No Wai!” too, but they are really going to do it.

They are partnering with D-Link, Linksys, and Niveus Media to drop some new Media Center Extenders on a new platform called “Extenders for Windows Media Center”. Not only will the new devices finally get Xvid and DivX support, they will also support the new WMV HD and encrypted HD streaming formats as well.

Even more bad news for Sony (these poor guys simply can’t catch a break, can they?), as Universal Studios has announced that they will no longer be supporting Sony’s Blu-ray DVD format, opting instead for the competing HD-DVD technology. Between the PS3 Europe delay announcement, the Japanese/US PS3 quantity slash, and now Universal’s public slamming of their next-generation DVD format has turned this into one bad week for Sony.
