An official tethering option for the iPhone is coming “soon”, according to AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph De La Vega. The executive confirmed the ongoing rumors in an interview at the Web 2.0 Summit, but did not disclose either a specific timescale or any idea of pricing. Tethering is the process of connecting – either wirelessly or via a cable - your cellphone to a laptop or other mobile device, to take advantage of its mobile internet connection.

By Chris Davies on Friday, Aug 1st 2008 1 CommentIf you’ve been following our sister-site iPhoneBuzz over the past few days, you may have been keeping track of Nullriver’s NetShare app for the iPhone. Intended to offer iPhone users a way to tether their handsets, via WiFi, to their laptops (for use as an external modem), the program initially went on sale through the Apple AppStore for $9.99 before suddenly disappearing without explanation. Nullriver had heard nothing from Apple and, as far as they could tell, NetShare did not contravene any AppStore ToS.
