If you don’t want reviewers to criticize the size of your netbook’s touchpad, you could always hide it flush with the palm-rest so they can’t quite see where it starts and ends.  Now we’re not saying that Starline designed their NB1000 10-inch netbook with that in mind, but it’s certainly a side-effect of the slick touchpad integration.

Acer and Toshiba have revealed that more than 90-percent of their netbooks – the Aspire One and the Satellite NB100 – are sold with Windows XP rather than one of the compact Linux builds that are offered on the budget ultraportables.  Dell, too, have confirmed that Windows XP sales have achieved similar dominance in netbooks as they have in the traditional PC space, while ASUS has shifted its Eee PC development priorities in response to the consumer demand.

Toshiba’s NB100 netbook (aka the NB105) may not step outside the box with its spec sheet, but that won’t stop buyers being drawn to the reliable brand name.  TechRadar had a brief hands-on with the NB100 recently, and found that while the 120GB available hard-drive space is capacious and the Ubuntu OS smooth with its 512MB of RAM, the keyboard was smaller than on rival machines.

Toshiba’s recently spotted netbook for Latin America, the NB105, is getting a UK cousin in the shape of the NB100.  The company has confirmed today that the 8.9-inch netbook will make it to shelves in October, with an Intel Atom 1.6GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM and a 120GB hard-drive.

Sony Walkman B100 Series
