The last we heard of MTube they were pushing a tiny, 2.8-inch MID with integrated WiMAX, but their latest touchscreen device jumps firmly onto the Android bandwagon. The MTube Android MID has a 7.6-inch capacitive touchscreen and uses an ARM processor, but rather than trying to hitch a ride in your bag, it’s intended for living room duties. Not only does the tablet offer internet access, but you can stream video, photos and music from the MTube to your big-screen TV.
Although it might look like a cheapo digital photo frame intended to be hung from your keychain, the MTube UMPC is actually a full, VIA-powered superultraportable (no, that word doesn’t really exist) running Linux. At just 8.5 x 8.5 x 2cm and weighing 150g it’s being called the smallest “full featured” computer in the world, with WiFi, WiMAX, a 2.8-inch touchscreen running at 640 x 480 and a battery that can last a surprising four hours when playing video. MiniPcPro shot some footage of the MTube at CES 2008, being careful not to accidentally drop it or lose it under a crumb:

Well, if you were having doubts that you could pack a VIA 1.0GHz CPU, 8GB of flash memory and 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen into a super-small casing, together with WiFi and WiMAX, andhave it actually work, then consider your doubts quashed; Bjorn Stronberg over at UltraMobileLife was allowed to finger the MTube for a whole minute, and of course he filmed the whole sordid experience.
The Taiwan Science and Technology Advisory Group threw this together real quick just to say “hey, you could be here real soon” but it’s actually a really cool little device. It’s based on VIA hardware and has a 1GHz processor from them in it.
It only gets better from there, the 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen controls the Linux OS that it is running and commands the 8GB of internal storage. The battery life is only 4 hours, but that’s still pretty good all things considered.
