MSI have released images of a new color version of their Wind U120 netbook, obviously intended for anybody not turned on by the original model’s bold black and white scheme.  The new grey/black Wind U120 has a more sober casing, probably making it more appealing to the business and enterprise markets MSI originally suggested the netbook variant was aimed at.

After an unboxing photoset and video preview, the 10-inch Acer Aspire One D150 now gets a full review courtesy of Laptop Mag.  The segment leader gets a slicker casing, speedier 160GB hard-drive and larger touchpad, while the bigger display – although frustratingly glossy at some angles – is always welcome.  However have Acer soured the deal with an attempt at battery cost-cutting?

We opened the week with our first-impressions of the T-Mobile BlackBerry Curve 8900, a surprisingly adept smartphone that’s managed to impress despite the absence of 3G.  We’ve also been playing with Vuzix’s iWear AV230XL OLED video headset, and the VIA Artigo A2000 Barebone Storage Server.  Finally, if you prefer your gadgets with a bit of (artificial) flesh on their bones, take a look at our Orbita Mouse unboxing; we’ll have the full review this coming week.

MSI’s original Wind U100 remains one of the best-known and better-selling netbooks, not least because MSI niftily allowed other companies to use the OEM design and rebadge it for their purposes.  Nothing lasts forever, though, and the company has a new range of netbooks out for 2009, the most distinctive of which is the MSI Wind U120.  Does a new, “businesslike” monochrome casing make all the difference?  LaptopMag have had one of the first U120’s on their test bench to find out.

MSI are preparing a touchscreen version of their Wind netbook, testing the waters at CES 2009 in January.  The new device – which will go head to head with ASUS’ planned touchscreen ultraportables – will be one of a range of new models the company plans for the new year, including the January arrival of the U120, U110 and U115.  All three will co-exist with the current Wind U100, and be joined by a 13-inch notebook the company believes will “really surprise” would-be buyers.

msi u110 u115Just last week we heard about the upcoming MSI Wind U120, which will be making its grand debut at CES 2009. But now it looks as if two more netbooks will be added to MSI’s U Series including the MSI U110 and the MSI U115.

The MSI U115 is really quite different. It features a SSD and a hard drive. So, the OS would then be installed on the SSD, but all of your data and information would be stored on a larger hard drive. This makes sense insofar as it will keep the price down and allow you room to save data, but doesn’t it seem a bit counterproductive to save your data on the drive that can be scratched or ruined?

You will have several options with the U115, including a 8GB SSD/80GB HDD, a 16GB SSD/120GB HDD or a 32GB SSD/160GB HDD. The MSI Wind U110 does not have the SSD configurations. However, both models feature Atom processors and have 10-inch screens.

The MSI Wind U120 hasn’t officially hit the market yet, but the first video unboxing (in Spanish) has already been shot.  The guys over at MSI Wind en Español have put together their brief first-impressions, too, and the U120 seems to be tentatively picking up the polished baton that its U100 predecessor left off.

MSI has just announced their latest offering, the Wind U120 Netbook. And following right in line with its predecessor, this Wind U120 packs in the features while making affordability a priority, which is especially important in our increasingly budget-conscious world.

The MSI Wind U120 has been roving the tradeshows, showing off its slick new “Thinkpad-inspired” design and spending some quality time with its parents.  In this case it’s the Wind U100, which looks pretty playtime in comparison to the U120’s sharper edges and two-tone color-scheme.

mbp1 slashgear 480x359We kicked off the week with some high-profile reviews here at SlashGear, putting the latest MacBook and MacBook Pro laptops through their paces.  If you’re considering one of these slick new machines – or are wondering what style features other manufacturers will be copying over the next six months – make sure to check them out!  We also played with a more budget computing option in the shape of the ASUS Eee PC 1000HA.

Meanwhile cellphones have been on the test bench, with Sprint’s pair of new Samsungs – the messaging Rant and the musical HighNote – squaring up against Velocity Mobile’s 103 smartphone.  We had to leave our desks to try out Blackline’s GPS Snitch, however, but were back in before curfew to play with some toys: WowWee’s Bladestar remote control helicopter, for one, and a rather more unusual review of the WowWee Femisapien
