Perhaps we’re naive, but we’d have thought that the sort of people who get early access to unannounced mobile phones would also have a decent camera, but perhaps it’s the thrill of the unknown that causes heavy hand shake.  No matter, you’re looking at a blurry image of the Motorola Motus, the company’s mid-rage Android smartphone expected to arrive in 2010, that showed up at the Motofan.ru forums.

If you can predict a device’s success by site stats then we’d say the Verizon DROID by Motorola is going to be a hit. A week after launch and the DROID is still topping the charts for reader interest, and you’ve been peppering us with questions and comments about the Android 2.0 device. Set to hit shelves this coming Friday, the Verizon DROID is already being heralded as the device that will change Motorola’s fortunes; is that hyperbole, or is the DROID really that good? We’ve been putting the smartphone through its paces, so read on for the full SlashGear review.

We’ve been waiting for Motorola’s Android range to go on sale to turn around the company’s ailing fortunes, but it turns out just the promise of Android models seems to have done the trick.  The company have announced their Q3 2009 financial figures, and they’ve surprised investors and analysts alike with news of net income amounting to $12m; that might not sound like much, but it’s a significant turnaround compared to the $397m loss in the same period twelve months ago.

We’ve just finished a sit-down session with Verizon, Motorola and Google to discuss the first Android 2.0 smartphone of the year, the Verizon DROID by Motorola, and this is certainly one very impressive smartphone.  It’s far too early for our full review, but check out some live photos and first impressions after the cut.

It’s not the first time we’ve played with the Samsung Moment, but today we’ve had the chance to take Sprint’s newest smartphone away and unbox it.  The Moment is the carrier’s second Android handset (after the non-QWERTY HTC Hero), packing a slide-out keyboard, 3.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen and both EVDO Rev.A and WiFi b/g.  Check out our hands-on gallery, unboxing video and some first-impressions of the Samsung Moment after the cut.

Another week come and gone, naturally it is time for the week in review. Monday we pulled the Nokia N900 from its box and videoed the unboxing for your perusal. Those cool Sony Ericsson Satio and Aino are finally hitting stores. The Aino can stream content from a PS3.

blackberry storm 2We’ll let you into a secret: embargoes are the janky, frustrating glue that keeps the tech business rolling, and it doesn’t take much to bring everything crashing down.  Someone has obviously been fiddling with Walt Mossberg’s clocks, as the AllThingsD writer and generally bearded-lovely has pushed out his review of not only the Motorola CLIQ – you can read our opinion on that phone here – but of the BlackBerry Storm 2.

The review comes on the heels of Verizon’s CEO scooping RIM to their own Storm 2 announcement, as we discovered yesterday.  There’s no way of knowing exactly whether Mossberg had special dispensation to publish early – it wouldn’t be the first time he’s had privileged access ahead of everyone else – but since we’re still hungry for Storm 2 details we’ll forgive him anyway.

As Motorola have found over the past couple of years, it’s taking an increasing amount to get geeks and gadget lovers to stand up and pay attention to a new cellphone. Right now, one sure-fire way of doing that is by launching an Android device, and so that’s what the ailing mobile giant has done in the shape of the Motorola CLIQ (aka the DEXT outside of the US). Not only does the CLIQ promise to make a splash among Android handsets, it also marks the debut of Motorola’s attempt to corral social networking into a mobile device. In our review we’ll not only be looking at the CLIQ hardware, as Motorola’s first-generation Android smartphone, but at MOTOBLUR and its potential beyond the CLIQ. Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

If there’s one thing we like, it’s leaky phone companies and their prematurely-exposed wares.  The Boy Genius Report seem to have had their fair share of Motorola Sholes images lately, and there’s another three new images – including the crisp shot you see here – to tempt us.  According to the phone’s “About” screen, the handset will have official name Motorola Droid.
