Mophie makes all sorts of cool accessories for the iPhone from regular cases to the Juicepack line of cases that add battery life to your iPhone. Back in late December 2009, we heard that Mophie was working on a new credit card reader for the iPhone but we had few details on the device.

We already knew that mophie and Qualcomm had joined forces to produce the mophie Juice Pack FLO TV edition, giving iPhone and iPod touch owners a way to not only recharge their handsets but watch live mobile TV on them too.  However Qualcomm have now announced that Audiovox – who already offer FLO TV functionality in some of their installed ICE systems – will be launching a new portable DVD player with integrated FLO TV later in 2010.  The chipset manufacturer also announced new content for the service.

I am a huge fan of wireless charging solutions for mobile phones, particularly the iPhone. Digging out your charge cable and plugging the device in each night is a pain for many of us and Case-Mate has a new case and wireless charger called the Hug that cuts the wires.

We’ve been more than a little dismissive of Qualcomm’s FLO TV Personal Television, with SlashGear columnist Michael Gartenberg summing up most of our doubts when he asked why you’d want to carry a separate, dedicated device.  Now, thanks to a deal with mophie, the FLO TV prospect has just got a whole lot more interesting: iPod touch and iPhone juice pack sleeves that add not only a backup battery but FLO TV live television receiving on the Apple handhelds.

I have owned a couple iPhones now and for each model I have owned I have a Mophie Juice Pack to keep its battery running longer. My favorite is the thin Juice Pack Air for my 3GS iPhone. Mophie is set to unveil another hardware accessory for the iPhone that looks a lot like the Juice Pack Air that is actually a credit card reader.

Nokia E72 review

By Chris Davies on Tuesday, Nov 24th 2009 3 Comments

There’s always a risk when a high-interest product is announced that by the time it hits shelves its moment has passed.  The Nokia E72 has been just such an anticipated smartphone, with eager E71 owners keen to upgrade to the Finns’ latest QWERTY marvel; problem is, at nigh on six months between announcement and availability, that’s a long time for the appeal to pale.  Has tardiness robbed the E72 of its market, or does a well considered keyboard save the day?  Check out the SlashGear review after the cut.

Nitrox didn’t just bring along their latest Bluetooth devices for us to look at today; they also had a new leather battery-case for the iPhone 3G.  Like the Mophie Juice Pack that we rate so highly, the Nitrox iconn+ promises to roughly runtime thanks to its integrated 1,200mAh Li-Ion battery; however unlike the Mophie, the iconn+ has a flap-down leather cover that protects the smartphone’s display.

We’re seldom impressed with LED flashes on cellphones, but it’s arguably better to have one and use it sparingly than not have one at all.  That’s why we can understand Ryan’s frustrating with his iPhone 3G: he decided to mod his Mophie Juice Pack to add an LED flash

iPhone 3GS Review

By Vincent Nguyen on Friday, Jun 26th 2009 2 Comments

With over one million iPhone 3GS units sold in the first three days, there’s no shortage of opinion as to Apple’s successes in their latest smartphone.  We’ve covered the basics in our hands-on first-impressions piece; with a few more days of intensive use under our belt, has the iPhone 3GS proved its worth?

The iPhone 3GS’ striking physical similarity to the last-gen 3G came as a mild disappointment back at the WWDC, but we’ve come to appreciate the stability.  It underscores the evolutionary, rather than revolutionary, nature of this update and, perhaps more importantly, it means accessories acquired for the iPhone 3G will still have a place with the new 3GS.  For a device introduced halfway through the contract agreement of its predecessor, that sort of continuity was pretty much necessary if there was to be any hope encouraging existing owners to upgrade.  We do wish that Apple had been a little more imaginative with the finish, however; a matte coating, perhaps slightly rubberized, would differentiate the new handset while not demanding reinvestment in car-kits, cases and cradles.
