Rumors about Korean firm mintpass' next-gen models have been swirling since the company themselves tipped a bigger, potentially up to 7-inch touchscreen and all-metal construction.  Now two possible models have been identified by Moveplayer, who spotted the mintpad 7wise and mintpad WSketch listed on the company's website.

It's been some time coming, but mintpass have finally seen their mintpad 2.86-inch touchscreen PMP and WiFi internet tablet arrive for general release.  The palm-sized mediaplayer boasts 4GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot, together with a 1.3-megapixel camera, audio, video and picture playback, and an ebook reader.

When Korean firm mintpass aren’t working on the mintpad MID, they’re busy at the design-board sketching out concept prototypes for your minimalist home.  One of their most interesting designs – especially since they’ve talked about next-generation mintpads with larger displays – is the Mint Frame, a 7-inch touchscreen digital photo frame that not only displays pictures but, thanks to a 2-megapixel camera built into the back, takes them too.

Here we go again with another week in review for your perusal. A mystery Android-powered MID tipped up this week looking very much like those renderings of the Apple tablet to my eyes. It’s cool to see android showing up on so many devices. Logitech unveiled an update to the coolest racing wheel ever, the G25, called simply enough the G27. The new wheel promises more accurate force feedback effects and keeps with the slick clutch and gated shifter we loved from the G25.

mintpass’ palm-sized mintpad PMP and internet browser has gone on sale through Amazon at $169.99, courtesy of specialist importer JetAudio.  The availability follows a brief period of pre-sales directly from mintpass themselves, and – at least according to a statement made to Pocketables – seems to indicate that the company have partnered with JetAudio for their US distribution.

android mintpadThe number of mintpass mintpad units in the US is still hugely limited, but that hasn’t stopped the company from talking about what the next-gen model might bring.  We’ve already heard mutterings about larger touchscreens, GPS and even WiBro; now there’s mention of Google’s Android platform being used.

We’re still harboring a soft-spot for mintpass‘ mintpad MID, so it’s relieving to hear that the first English-modified units are meeting with approval.  Pocketables shared their unboxing earlier this week, and now it’s time for some first-impressions.  The mintpad’s 1.3-megapixel camera is proving surprisingly capable, as is the browser (despite not being fully translated yet) and the QVGA screen may be small at 2.86-inches but it’s still highly readable.

After mintpass made a few pre-release mintpad MID units available to touchscreen-loving early adopters last week, the first English-language unboxing and hands-on for the 2.86-inch device is here.  We’re entirely unsurprised to see that Jenn from Pocketables is first; she’s already impressed with the build-quality of the WiFi-enabled mintpad, together with the range of accessories they include.

After mintpass’ English-language site was updated to include the mintpad ultra-portable MID earlier this week, speculation began that a launch in the US and/or Europe was imminent.  SlashGear has been talking to mintpass as to the state of play, and it seems that while the mintpad hardware is basically ready for its English-language release, the thin-client UZard browser requires new server support.

Korean company mintpass continue to tease with their ultra-compact mintpad MID, adding the “net-friendly MP3 player” to their English-language site.  A palm-sized PMP with integrated WiFi b/g, 1.3-megapixel camera and internet access, the mintpad measures just 78.2 x 63.8 x 15.2 mm and weighs a mere 90g.  It’s been available in Korea since November last year.
