Leaked Microsoft Lumia renders reveal premium Windows phones

Leaked Microsoft Lumia renders reveal premium Windows phones

Microsoft has been expected to announce a new pair of flagship Windows-powered phones under the Lumia name in October, and while we've already seen a few leaked photos and spec lists, now what appear to be official press renders have been discovered. The new images come from Evan Blass, better known as @evleaks on Twitter, a reliable and often correct leaker. What we see now are the 5.2-inch Lumia 950, codenamed Talkman, along with the larger 5.7-inch Lumia 950 XL, codenamed Cityman.

Microsoft’s October lineup: Surface Pro 4, 2 Lumias, Band 2

While Samsung went a month early to avoid the IFA and Apple rush of September, it seems that Microsoft will go the opposite route and hold its event a bit later. Two separate sources agree that October will be Microsoft's month as it will be revealing a new lineup of devices, including the Surface Pro 4, two new Lumia flagships, and the second Microsoft Band wearable. Given the Lumias, this might also be the time when Microsoft will finally launch, or even just unveil, Windows 10 Mobile.

#MicrosoftInAlaska – an Epic Lumia Adventure

#MicrosoftInAlaska – an Epic Lumia Adventure

We recently went on an adventure of a lifetime exploring Alaska with Microsoft. During the event, we used the Lumia 640 XL Windows Phone to capture our experience. It was also a big treat to have Stephen Alvarez – a National Geography photographer - on hand to provide first hand pro shooting tips. Taking pictures with a smartphone versus a camera is different in some respects but, at the core, there are many similarities.

Things to look for when shooting with a cameraphone:

  • Pay attention to the edges
  • Shoot high, shoot low, shoot sideways – be creative!
  • Capture the action
  • Watch the light – and in Alaska, there’s a lot of day light especially this time year. While there, the sun was out from around 5 AM until 11 PM at night.
  • Make friends – this is an important tip because according to Stephen, people will be less likely to freeze up when you’re using a cameraphone versus a larger Micro 4/3 or DSLR. Making friends is the key to unlocking doors and putting people at ease.
  • Have fun! It’s hard not to have fun when you’re out and about in Alaska or where ever your adventures might takes you. Enjoy yourself, be in the moment with your friends and family and be happy.

Microsoft Lumia 950 XL flagship leaks

Microsoft Lumia 950 XL flagship leaks

Microsoft may have been focusing on Windows 10 lately, but it also has a pair of flagship smartphones in the pipeline, photos of one of which have now leaked. The Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL - otherwise known by their codenames, Talkman and Cityman - are expected to make their official debut in September or October this year, but the larger Lumia 950 XL has apparently escaped early in prototype form, at least.

These are the first 10 Lumias to get Windows 10 Mobile

Windows 10 has finally rolled out and some have already gotten their first taste of the brand new OS. The first reviews are coming in and, all in all, it's a rather mixed bag. But now that desktops and tablets have had their fair share, the more mobile-inclined are perhaps more curious about the smartphone incarnation of Windows 10. When will Windows 10 Mobile descend and on which devices first? Fortunately, it seems that Microsoft has finally spilled the beans on that. Or at least the first beans.

Next Lumia flagships to sport iris scanner, Surface Pen

Although Microsoft is in a celebratory mood over the imminent release of Windows 10, the topic of Windows 10 smartphones remains to be a sore point. And it isn't just because of the company's somewhat indecisive, almost ambiguous, attitude towards this section of mobile, but even more because it lacks such a Wndows phone that it can truly be proud of. That, however, might soon change with Microsoft's next Lumia duo, codenamed Cityman and Talkman. Provided, of course, these rumors do pan out in the end.

Microsoft Band 2 coming with “a few killer devices” for Lumia

Microsoft Band 2 coming with “a few killer devices” for Lumia

This week the folks at Microsoft have been rather up-front about their plans to expand their mobile devices front. At Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference 2015, the company's COO Kevin Turner suggested that they were at work on a second version of Microsoft Band. He also suggested that they were working on "a few killer devices" for Lumia. For Windows Phone, that is to say, and the future of mobile devices from Microsoft that, earlier this month, seemed to be in question.

Lumia 940, 940 XL to be pricier than iPhone despite plastic

Lumia 940, 940 XL to be pricier than iPhone despite plastic

Rumors like these definitely make you wonder what people in Redmond might be inhaling or ingesting. Of course, provided there is truth to these at all. Microsoft hasn't completely quit the mobile race and CEO Satya Nadella mentioned a few smartphones coming our way, including a flagship. To some extent, the Lumia 940 and its larger 940 XL sibling fit the bill. But Nadella also promised a flagship that fans will love, and that is where things get a bit tricky for these two smartphones.

Lumia 735 lands on Verizon, bringing selfies and HD voice

This weeks is a Windows Phone and selfie week. Just a while ago, we saw Samsung unveil the selfie-friendly mid-range Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7, both with front LED flash. Also this week, we saw the Microsoft Lumia 640 and the 640 XL appear in Cricket and AT&T, respectively. Bringing those two worlds together for a weekend climax is the Microsoft Lumia 735, which has finally appeared on Verizon's shelves. XLTE-ready, this budget Windows Phone is more than just smiles, with HD Voice Calling tagging along for the ride.

Microsoft Lumia 640 XL to be exclusive to AT&T in the US

At MWC earlier this year, Microsoft introduced its two new latest Lumia smartphones, the 640 and the 640 XL. Earlier, we took the Lumia 640, available on Cricket Wireless, for a spin. Now, we're hearing about its larger sibling. The Microsoft Lumia 640 XL is also coming to the US, but it will be an exclusive offer from AT&T. Mixing a large phablet screen with rather low specs, the Lumia 640 XL is yet another addition to Microsoft's growing number of almost indistinguishable Windows Phone models.

Microsoft Lumia 640 Review: Cricket’s scrappy cyan warrior

The Microsoft Lumia 640 isn't all that remarkable on its own. It's another Windows Phone device, made by the people who up until this past year were known as Nokia. Now it comes from Microsoft, and it's ready to roll for a cool $130 USD. That's a good value for what the device presents. But with today's Elop exit and news of Microsoft's reshuffling, is it a good time to be buying in to Microsoft's phone ecosystem? Or is this the company's last gasp before throwing in the towel?

Microsoft tipped to be working on two high-end Lumia phones

Microsoft has been putting out new Windows Phone powered Lumia phones, but, like Nokia before it, it seems to be content simply filling the lower end with budget choices. Well, not anymore, if this insider tip is to be believed. The source claims that Redmond is busy at work designing not one but two Lumia phones that could, on paper, stand proud against this year's flagships. Of course, it will be running Windows 10 for phones, so your opinion and experience might vary, depending on your reception of Microsoft's upcoming OS.
