IR extenders – which can be used to remotely-control A/V components tucked inside closed-up equipment racks or in other rooms – aren’t new, but Logitech probably have the brand-name recognition (and bricks-and-mortar shelf space) to soon dominate the market. The Logitech Harmony IR Extender System works with your existing remotes, and comes with a compact IR receiver and an IR blaster with various tethered mini-blasters.
Did’t I just finish writing a week in review? That time again already? Ok, so here we go! Asus’ Eee netbook roadmap leaked this week showing us some of the new machines Asus has up its sleeves and tipping us off on the netbooks already on the market that will be going extinct soon. SanDisk got all official and stuff with a new low-end MP3 player called the Sansa Clip+. The thing gains a microSD card slot to accommodate that big bag of fail known as slotMusic.
I have been using and reviewing Logitech Harmony remotes for years and so far, I have found them to be some of the best universal remotes on the market. The only real downside to most of the Harmony remotes is that they are expensive devices.
Another week has come and gone leaving us with memories and a hoard of cool stories to throw your way for weekend reading in case you missed them over the week. An Asus 900HA netbook was hacked into a touchscreen slate on Monday and we really liked it. DIY gear is so cool, especially when it turns out this good. Monday also brought some details on the Blackberry Storm 2 piezo touchscreen tech. We really hope its better than the original Storm.
Logitech have unveiled their latest universal remote, the Harmony 900, an RF unit that – with the three bundled IR blasters – can control devices in other rooms or enclosed in cabinets. The Harmony 900 remote has a full-color touchcreen as well as numerous backlit hardware buttons, and can be set up via an online wizard; Logitech claim battery life of up to a week.
Logitech have announced availability for their Harmony Adapter for the PS3, the adapter which links the company’s Harmony universal remotes with the Sony console. Priced at $59.99, the Harmony Adapter will be available “in the next few weeks” in North America, together with a European launch in July and an imminent arrival in Australia.

If you’ve always wished you could use your Logitech Harmony remote for just about everything, your wish might just come true. Or close to it, anyway. Logitech just announced this weekend that they have an adapter in the works that allows the Harmony remote to control the PS3.
Logitech’s Harmony 1100 universal remote has finally gone on sale at Newegg, offering a 3.5-inch touchscreen, both infrared and RF capabilities, customizable icons, layouts and macros, and the ability to set it all up via a PC. The Harmony 1100 has access to Logitech’s 225,000 device-strong A/V control database, including models from 5,000 brands.
We don’t cover universal remotes all that often here on SlashGear, but this one is definitely worth noting. Logitech released the Harmony 510 today, which–while entry-level–sports numerous features and brings a cool design to a wider consumer market.
Call your new remote control the “Ultimate Remote” and you’d better have some meat to back up the name, but that’s how tvCompass have decided to brand their WiFi-enabled universal zapper. We first saw the device back in January at CES, and now the company have partnered with ESPN to launch both the remote and an exclusive media content service for users. Sports-fans will be able to check out news and stats while they watch the game, as well as browse the EPG on the Ultimate Remote’s full-color 2.2-inch display.
