LG have announced a launch date for their GD900 cellphone, promising that UK buyers will be able to pick up the clear-keyboard slider from July 1st. Packing a full touchscreen LCD, as well as a touch-sensitive slide-down transparent control panel, the GD900 uses the same OS and UI as the LG Arena; Pocket-lint were on hand to grab these live photos.

LG have reported their financial performance for the first three months of 2009, and while handset sales declined by 7-percent year-on-year, overall operating profit for the company as a whole increased 2.8-percent to $324m. The real success was seen in LG’s home entertainment division, with strong LCD demand pushing sales for the period up 18.6-percent to $3.05bn (for a profit of $10m).
The first official demo video for the LG GD900 has been released, showing off the cellphone’s multitouch capabilities and its transparent slide-out numeric keypad. On show at CTIA last month, the GD900 uses its keypad as a secondary capacitive trackpad for gestures and navigation, while the main touchscreen itself also supports multitouch.

CTIA Wireless has come and gone for another year, and while many people are complaining about the general lack of new products, there were still interesting devices and services that we got to see demoed and get our hands on. We’re going to list off our favorites from the week, and hope the delay in getting this list up doesn’t bother you too much; we had to really think hard before we decided.
LG have confirmed that their transparent-keypad cellphone, the LG GD900, will not only be on show at CTIA Wireless but available to play with. First shown at Mobile World Congress, there the GD900 was locked in a display cabinet; that meant we were unable to try its 3-inch multitouch touchscreen, S-Class UI, gesture-support or “world’s first” transparent glass keypad.
