Lenovo's latest netbook tweak, the 720p high-definition display option for the IdeaPad S10-2, has seen its first video demonstration.  Netbooknews caught up with the ultraportable - together with its regular cousin - and gave them a side-by-side run through, 1,280 x 720 versus 1,024 x 600.

Back in July, we reviewed the Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 and while we weren’t overly impressed (it is a netbook, afterall), it was a machine that we wouldn’t necessarily run away from, if we had some extra cash in our pockets. And now it looks like Lenovo has something else coming down the line, specifically for Japan. HD displays aren’t run of the mill quite yet for netbooks, so it’s always good to see an existing model getting a display upgrade.

Dolby have officially announced the Dolby Headphone “personal surround sound” system which we saw demonstrated on a VIA netbook back in July, and confirmed that the technology will be included on Lenovo’s IdeaPad S12 and S10-2 netbooks.  The system creates the illusion of 5.1 surround sound through stereo headphones by modeling the effect audio reflections off the walls and furnishings of a typical room would have on the listener’s ears.

Whew! The week is over already and this has been another busy one here at SlashGear with more new announcements and gear than we can shake a stick at. Things kicked off this week with a video of the LG BL40 Black Label feature phone hitting the Web. This was a good thing since we hate teaser campaigns. One of the cooler things from early in the week was the Fujifilm announcement of the FinePix Real 3D digital camera coming this year. The only downside is the camera is about $600 and the digital frame required to see the photos goes for another $200.

Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 Review

By Vincent Nguyen on Wednesday, Jul 15th 2009 1 Comment

As evolutionary updates go you don’t get more basic than a cosmetic refresh, so imagine our surprise to find Lenovo guilty of just such a relaunch.  The Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 takes the company’s original S10 netbook and, most obviously, reworks the casing; is that enough to keep the S10-2 near the top of the netbook leaderboard?  SlashGear set to finding out.

More hands-on feedback regarding Lenovo’s IdeaPad S10-2 netbook today, and this time a video to go along with it.  GottaBeMobile’s Xavier grabbed a demo with the S10-2 and, aside from the switch from a matte display to glossy, it’s more good news about the refreshed ultraportable.

We only heard official word of it yesterday, and the full announcement isn’t due until later today, but that hasn’t stopped LaptopMag from going hands-on with the Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2.  The netbook is, as the name suggests, an update to the original IdeaPad S10, with a newly rounded case design, 0.4lbs of weight shaved off and 0.1-inches of thickness.  Unfortunately Lenovo have left the N270 Atom processor in place, rather than switch it out for the newer N280.

Though it won’t be officially introduced until tomorrow, Lenovo will be announcing their IdeaPad S10-2 netbook and it’s got a thinner form factor than the previous IdeaPad S10. Plus, the body weighs less and you’ll have the option to choose from four different colors.

lenovo ideapad s10e 1Lenovo’s Matt Kohut has been fleshing out the company’s vision of netbooks over the next five years, and the worldwide competitive analyst isn’t shy of a strong opinion.  Key themes mentioned are nothing new but generally welcome: Windows 7, touch and multitouch, integrated WWAN connectivity and lower prices.
