Apple asks Judge Koh to bump up Samsung injunction hearing

Apple asks Judge Koh to bump up Samsung injunction hearing

At the moment, Samsung and Apple are set to go before Judge Lucy Koh at the beginning of December for a preliminary injunction hearing. Apple wants an injunction against 8 Samsung devices that were found to be infringing on its patents, and if the company has its way, it could get that injunction before December 6. FOSS Patents reports that late last week, Apple requested that Judge Koh move the date of the injunction hearing up.

Samsung’s damages decrease slightly as Koh sets date for injunction hearing

Samsung’s damages decrease slightly as Koh sets date for injunction hearing

Samsung took a pretty major blow when the jury in its patent case against Apple delivered their verdict today. Apple was awarded damages exceeding $1 billion, and even though that isn't as much as the iPhone maker was looking for, it's still a pretty hefty amount for Samsung to have to pay. However, after the verdict was delivered, there were a couple of inconsistencies the jury had to address. In their verdict, the jurors awarded Apple damages for the Samsung Intercept's infringement on the company's '915 utility patent, while it was also awarded damages for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G LTE's infringement on its '889 design patent. The only problem is the jury awarded these damages without actually finding that the devices were infringing on the patents in question.

Judge Koh suggests Apple is “smoking crack” in Samsung case

Judge Koh suggests Apple is “smoking crack” in Samsung case

Today in the ongoing Apple vs Samsung court case Judge Lucy Koh's patience wore thin as Apple presented a 75-page document highlighting 22 witnesses it would like to call in for rebuttal testimony, provided the court had the time. As those following the case closely know quite well, the case has a set number of hours which are already wearing quite thin. As quoted by The Verge as they sat in the courtroom listening in, Koh wondered aloud why Apple would offer the list "when unless you're smoking crack you know these witnesses aren't going to be called!"

Namco Bandai and Nissan Team Up to Create Futuristic Yokohama City in Virtual Reality

Namco Bandai and Nissan Team Up to Create Futuristic Yokohama City in Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality (VR) was all the rage several years ago. In arcades all over the world (where you could find them), there were rigs set up to showcase a digital world, where the player was fully submerged. A part of the game, and not just playing it. And while it may have quieted down over the years, it looks like Nissan and Namco Bandai have found a way to make it useful again. Both companies have announced today that they plan on creating a driving simulation that uses advanced VR technology, with a Smart Grid, to provide an in-depth driving experience second to none.

Kohjinsha D2 dual-display netbook hands-on

Kohjinsha D2 dual-display netbook hands-on

Tucked into the corner of AMD's CES 2010 booth we spotted Kohjinsha's dual-display netbook and couldn't help but check the Athlon Neo MV-40 powered machine out.  Curiously named the Kohjinsha D2, rather than as the DZ as we've seen up until now, the netbook still has twin 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 LCD panels that nest together for transport and then pull out for side-by-side use.

Kohjinsha DZ dual-screen netbook gets video unboxing

Kohjinsha's DZ dual-display netbook make have been slightly outclassed by the Onkyo DX-Series (galling, since the DX is basically a rebadged DZ with a few extra pixels), but we're still unlikely to turn our hands up at an unboxing of the original.  WOW-POW have acquired a DZ and promptly shot a video unboxing and brief overview, which you can see after the cut.

Kohjinsha DZ dual-display netbook shipping December

Kohjinsha's dual-display netbook was one of the stars of CEATEC back in October, but the company was quiet on whether the prototype would reach shipping stage.  Strong feedback has obviously tipped their hand, however: you can now preorder the netbook, freshly named the Kohjinsha DZ, with a Japanese delivery expected on December 11th.  Your 79,800 yen ($921) netbook has two 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 LCD displays which sandwich together into the lid for ease of transportation, as well as rotating all the way around to face backwards.
