The iRex Digital Reader 1000-series may not have been the revolution in ebooks that the company’s teaser campaign initially suggested, but that doesn’t mean the devices themselves aren’t impressive. MobileRead have just received the mid-range DR1000S, which has touchscreen input for document annotation but no WiFi or Bluetooth capabilities, and have put up some unboxing comparisons with the smaller iRex Iliad together with their first-impressions.
iRex, the company behind the iLiad e-book, have started a teaser campaign on their site promising a new product announcement on Monday September 22nd. Accompanied with the slogan “Seeing is Believing”, according to the iRex company blog the announcement will include both hardware and software.

Let’s start off with the e-book reader everyone knows about already. The Amazon Kindle has gotten quite a bit of press already, but for many, it is the only e-book reader they’ve ever heard of. That makes it as likely a place to start as any.
E-book manufacturer iRex have announced [pdf link] a new, cheaper version of their iLiad reader. The “Book Edition” drops the original’s WiFi b/g and gains a silver casing, while the price also drops by €150 to €499 ($768). It comes pre-loaded with fifty classic novels and has the same touchscreen for notetaking.
I’m really starting to warm up to the idea of using an e-book reader. I think it would be kind of cool to load up a couple of books and just have one little pad to carry around. Especially if it had more functions than just allowing me to read the book.
