No great surprise here – after all, HTC CEO Peter Chou already exclusively confirmed it to us back in October – but HTC have officially announced that the HTC HD2 Windows Phone will be headed to the US in early 2010.  According to a new press release today, the HD2 “will be available with a major carrier in the US in early 2010″; previous leaks have suggested T-Mobile will be the lucky network to offer the smartphone.

While we often can be found heaping scorn onto the me-too Atom N270 netbook ranges that pass our viewing window, Intel’s low-power chip does occasionally find its way into an interesting machine.  Stealth Computer have slotted the 1.6GHz chip into their latest “Little PC”, the Stealth LPC-395F, a fanless nettop with a ruggedized chassis and front-loading 2.5-inch hard-drive bay.

After weeks of rumor, HTC have confirmed the existence of their latest flagship Windows Phone, the HTC HD2 (aka the HTC Leo).  As expected, the HD2 runs Windows Mobile 6.5 on a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, with a 4.3-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen and 5-megapixel autofocus camera; it’s also the first Windows Phone to support both multitouch and HTC Sense.  Perhaps best of all, HTC CEO Peter Chou has confirmed that HTC will be offering a US 3G version of the HD2 in Q1 2010.  SlashGear sat down with Chou earlier on today to get a preview of the HD2 and find out more about HTC’s focus moving forward.

Palm Pre Review

By Vincent Nguyen and Chris Davies on Wednesday, Jun 3rd 2009 5 Comments

A lot can happen in five months. Announced to dropped jaws at CES back in January, the Palm Pre has captured attention in a way usually only Cupertino can. Tightly patrolled demos at intervening tradeshows have only added to the allure; now, on June 6th, it’s Palm and Sprint’s chance to see whether hype adds up to sales. SlashGear have been living, breathing and sleeping Pre for the past couple of weeks: read on for our full review.

It almost seems unnecessary to go over the Pre’s hardware: it’s been pored over since the CES launch. As well as the obvious things – the 3.1-inch 320 x 480 capacitive touchscreen, slide-out hardware QWERTY keyboard, multitouch strip under the display and 3-megapixel camera on the back – there’s EVDO Rev.A, WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and a multitasking-capable processor lurking inside.

cadillacwifi lgIn case driving around in a Cadillac isn’t enough for you, come April you’ll be able to get the Internet while out on the road, too. And it’s all because of a new system called Cadillac WiFi that is based on an Autonet Mobile device. This device is completely portable and makes it so computers can access the Internet over a local connection.

In case you want a car with this gizmo built in, your first option will be the CTS Sports Sedan. However, you will be able to buy the WiFi device by itself, though it’ll cost you $499 plus $29 a month for the service.

At the moment, Cadillac is one of only a few car companies looking to pursue Internet for in the car. However, there is some concern that within a few years this technology will be useless, once 3G and 4G cell phone networks and devices are more readily available, cheaper and more reliable. But for now, it’s still pretty cool.

Stealth.Com have announced a new small-form-factor PC intended for embedded, in-car or industrial applications.  The Stealth LPC-450M Little PC is based on an Intel Core 2 Duo with, as standard, a shock-mounted 2.5-inch hard-drive and PSU capable of running on 10-16V DC power such as supplied from a car battery. SSD storage is an option, as is upgrading the standard DVD/CD-RW to a DVD burner.
