T-Mobile USA lights up new HSPA+ and blasts AT&T iPhone speeds

T-Mobile USA has turned on HSPA+ in three new metro areas, claiming that in its tests with an unlocked iPhone 4S, it saw 70-percent faster downloads than on AT&T. The new service - in select parts of Washington D.C, Baltimore, and Houston - joins T-Mobile's existing iPhone-compatible "4G" 1900MHz provision as the carrier tries to remain relevant in the face of LTE services from rivals.

Google has refreshed the Nexus 7 with a new 32GB version, making the 16GB model the entry-level for under two hundred bucks, and throwing in an HSPA+ model for good measure. The 7-inch tablet, announced back at Google I/O, now has more internal storage for carrying extra music and video, while the HSPA+ version will mean getting online is more straightfoward.

T-Mobile boosts HSPA+ and grabs LTE kit; iPhone support this year

T-Mobile USA has announced the next phase of its 4G drive, with broader roll-out of HSPA+ 42Mbps service and new partners for its 2013 LTE network. The carrier has inked deals with Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks - both mainstays in the 4G industry - to LTE-capable kit at 37,000 cell sites across T-Mobile's 4G network, boosting signal quality and enhancing performance beginning in 2012. Meanwhile, T-Mobile has also seen more than 1m users sign up to the VoIP service, with each user making over ten calls on average.

After more than a year of waiting, BlackBerry users will finally be able to purchase an HSPA+ or 4G LTE PlayBook here in the USA. The FCC has revealed these two versions of the one and only BlackBerry tablet to the world before RIM has formally had a chance to show it off in the wild, and not one whole heck of a lot more than that is known as the moment. This version of the tablet has been tipped perviously to be coming with an upgraded series of specs such as NFC and a dual-core 1.5GHz processor under the hood.
