When Palm sent out invitations for users to trial an “innovative new product” earlier on this week, the criteria that participants must be heavy smartphone and email users, have a WiFi router and an account with Sprint led many to presume that it referred to the Treo 800w.  That handset – long in the making, and believed to be hitting Sprint in July - is expected to have the usual full thumbboard as well as WiFi, EV-DO Rev.A and Windows Mobile 6, and it seems reasonable that Palm would be beta testing it around now.  However, just as we were all about to file the rumor away, another possibility was suggested: could Palm be reviving the Foleo?

If you’d been scared off trying Halo 3 (either from a tweaked, hacked and generally molested copy, or by buying it from UK retailer Argos who started selling copies a week prior to its actual release) because of the threat that Microsoft would block your Xbox Live account, please feel free to breath again.  Despite dire warnings to the contrary, in actual fact Microsoft have no intention of blocking anybody.

If you’re a dedicated PC gamer, chances are that you aren’t as interested in Halo 3 as those that focus their time on console games. Perhaps Team Fortress 2 might be a little more up your alley. If you want to play it early, you don’t have to find a rouge copy on ebay, rather you can get yourself into the beta for just $50.

Halo 3 gets a released date

Many people are anxious on when Halo 3 will be released. The popular first person shooter game has been buzzing lately and Microsoft plays its PR card pretty well by allowing some public-beta on its Halo 3 multi-player starting today and releasing Zune Halo 3 edition.

Nintendo WiiWe all got very familiar with this picture of a multi-coloured shoal of Wii, metaphorically gliding through the waves that the big fish on the console scene were causing, and so when on release day we could only buy the white version there were many people disappointed (though obviously even more were disappointed that the dang thing sold out so quickly!)  Now, courtesy of the rumour-mill and a loquacious Toys-R-Us manager, comes the news that Nintendo might just be relaunching their sweat-prompting console in the new year, along with a drop in price to $200 and a variety of colour options.

GotFrag were half of the above conversation and have put forward a few tentative explanations of why Nintendo might work things this way.  A Spring-launch of several multiplayer online games is one such reason, as is the upcoming Halo 3 public beta.  Lastly, they link to a Japanese news site which has done a detailed break-down of the Wii’s componentry and come up with a $158 cost figure to Nintendo:

“Nintendo could theoretically drop the price of the Wii to $200 and unbundle Wii Sports to make a profit margin for each unit that is relatively the same, albeit with more units sold, leading to the possibility of more games and accessories purchased” GotFrag

They’re careful to point out that this is all rumour and conjecture, but there’s not long to wait until we find out for sure.  And, given the scarcity of Wii’s on shop shelves, for most of us all we can really do is wait.

Bad news for everyone looking forward to getting their hands on Bungie’s Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta this upcoming spring: Microsoft has revealed that the test will not be a true public beta; instead, users will need to “register for the opportunity to be one of the select members.” So, unless you’re quick, it’s possible that you might need to wait until Fall to enjoy Halo 3 in all its glory. So, how does one register? Hit the jump to find out!
