The end of the week is here again and here we go with a rundown of some of the coolest stories we have seen this week. Monday marked the day the Asus Eee PC 1101HA went on sale in America. The rig is a netbook in name only; the beastie is expensive at about $430. The same day Gigabyte quietly unveiled the T1028X convertible touchscreen netbook. The device has a screen resolution of 1366 x 768 and other than the screen, the rest of the machine is typical netbook fare.
The great thing about only spotting a new device when it launches is that you don’t have to wait too long until you can see if unboxed and in action. Gigabyte’s TouchNote T1028X convertible touchscreen netbook only crossed our paths yesterday, but already Liliputing have their review unit in to play with.

Gigabyte have quietly updated their convertible touchscreen netbook range with the T1028X, a slightly re-fettled version of the T1028M they announced back at CeBIT 2009. Among the key changes are a switch in processor, moving up to the Atom N280 1.66GHz CPU paired with a faster FSB, and a higher-resolution display, now running at 1,366 x 768.
We’ve been talking about the T1028M Touchnote for awhile now, but nothing gets us more excited than full, genuine unboxing and that’s precisely what we came across today. The Gigabyte T1028M Touchnote got its moment in the sun today with a full unboxing over at UMPCPortal. This portable seemed to pretty much live up to expectations, though there was a disappointment factor when it came to the battery.
Gigabyte have posted the official specifications page and user manual for their T1028 TouchNote netbook. The convertible touchscreen netbook was announced at CeBIT 2009, and has a 10.1-inch 1042 x 600 LED backlit display as standard, an Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz or N280 1.66Ghz processor and 1GB of RAM (max 2GB).
Importers won’t be bringing the Gigabyte T1028 touchscreen convertible netbook to the US until the end of April, but Engadget Chinese have picked one up ahead of time. Compared to the M912, Gigabyte’s previous-gen touchscreen netbook, there are improvements all across the board.
Gigabyte’s three CeBIT 2009 netbooks have scored pricing and shipping dates from importer Mobilx. The Gigabyte M1022 BookTop, which has an upright desktop docking station and the Gigabyte T1028M TouchNote with a convertible 10.1-inch touchscreen will land at the end of next month, followed by the Gigabyte S1024 ThinNote.
After the niche-carving success of their M912, Gigabyte are back with a new touchscreen convertible netbook. Debuted at CeBIT, the Gigabyte Touch Note M1028 has an 10.1-inch swiveling touchscreen, comes with up to Intel’s 1.66GHz Atom N280 processor and has a 160GB hard-drive.
