Given how long it’s taking eviGroup to push out their Wallet MID, we’re quite surprised with how quickly they’re working on getting their new 10.7-inch UMPC out of the door.  The eviGroup Pad has already had its first hands-on, courtesy of French site NowhereElse, who reckon the 1024 x 600 resistive touchscreen – even with a stylus – is responsive while Windows 7 runs reasonably on the 1.6GHz Atom processor.

Update: The Elite 3G version of the eviGroup Pad is on sale now for €599 plus €30 shipping ($932); they’ll also sell you an OS-free version for €539 ($799).

French MID/UMPC manufacturer eviGroup have released a few preliminary images of their upcoming Pad touchscreen tablet, and while we’re far from making up our minds about the Windows 7 slate yet, it’s looking reasonably attractive in a “digital pictureframe” sort of way.  The eviGroup Pad has a 10.2-inch 1024 x 600 resistive touchscreen, WiFi a/b/g and integrated 3G, and bundles a new “AI UI” called Seline which promises less pecking with a finger or stylus and more straightforward access to data.

We’ve been watching the development of eviGroup’s Wallet MID with no small amount of interest; after all, while Android-based touchscreen handhelds seem ten a penny lately, it’s still quite rare for them to have a release date attached.  Nowhere Else’s Stagueve is conveniently in France to stop by the eviGroup offices and have a play with the prototype; check out his hands-on video and some first-impressions after the cut.

Looking strikingly like the mysterious Android MID we’ve been seeing so much of lately, this is actually eviGroup’s upcoming Wallet MID.  First tipped back in May and promised for a launch by the end of 2009, the touchscreen handheld has been described by the French company’s CEO as a “unit halfway between a cellphone and a TabletPC with a 5-inch screen”, though right now it’s unknown whether it uses an Intel x86 CPU with Windows OS or a frugal ARM chipset with 7+ hours runtime and custom OS.
