Apple have reportedly rejected Intel’s upcoming 32nm Arrandale mobile Core i5 and Core i7 processors, and are demanding custom versions that leave off the processors’ integrated graphics.  According to Bright Side of News’ sources, said to be “close to the heart of the matter”, Apple want a version of Arrandale/Capella (the PM55-based platform) suited to discrete graphics for their next-gen MacBooks and MacBook Pros.

Android-based MIDs aren’t particularly rare – the allure of a free OS has already tempted many a manufacturer – but it’s unusual to find one actually destined to the US.  Inbrics’ Android MID is one such rarity; the company have announced that not only will they be bringing the ARM Cortex A8 based touchscreen slider to CES in January, they’ll also be releasing it in the US in 2010.

Most of our mobile phones have cameras inside and many of those cameras were features tacked on so the maker could say the phone included a camera. The average camera phone takes poor pictures that are all the worse when used in low light.

iriver’s latest product is out, and unlike their more traditional range of PMPs they’ve branched off into “eco-friendly bike navigation”.  The iriver NV mini bike edition is a sliced-down version of their NV classic, keeping the touchscreen, GPS and media playback but dropping the integrated DMB TV tuner.

I used to be a total Macintosh user; however, over time, various places I worked depended on Microsoft Windows and other MSFT technologies so that I was forced to use Windows for much of what I do. I still kept using a Mac, mostly for creative work and where business use allowed, but I had to have Windows in my life. Over the last few years, Apple has created a new line of machines that more closely match my laptop needs and have made a lot of changes to their core platform OS X. The result is a combination that makes for a very compelling argument to use Macintosh full time.

Here’s another of those ideas where you wonder exactly why we haven’t been doing this already.  APSI’s latest in-car navigation system, the C100, consists of a GPS cradle complete with A/V connectivity and a slide-out touchscreen PMP.  That way you have the easy wiring of a permanent solution together with the convenience of a removable media player.

MIUTech’s HDPC smartphone/MID hybrid looked, frankly, a mess in its first iteration, and a subsequent redesign or two did little to improve things.  Happily the company have returned to the drawing board and come back with this slick little monster, freshly updated with some appealing specifications – full QWERTY, a 4.8-inch 1024 x 600 touchscreen and Intel Atom 1.6GHz Z530 processor – and a promise that, distributors aside, it’s all go for a release.

Samsung have spilled some details on their upcoming YP-M1 PMP, including the suggestion that the 3.3-inch AMOLED touchscreen media device will use an NVIDIA chipset.  That’s prompted speculation that, like the Zune HD, the YP-M1 will be based on the NVIDIA Tegra chipset.
