Last time I ordered a Dell PC, I have to go through 10 plus pages of endless configuration steps (exaggerates) . There were too many and countless of optional antivirus, accessories, application and bunch of unnecessary junks for a simple task- order a pc online. As if that’s not enough, Dell has launched a movie preload service on new PC. A new twist that allowing online customers to customize select desktops and laptops with exclusive pre-installed movie bundles.

The leaked flyer was only the start of it; there’s still no official press release [update: press release after the cut, and the microsite is up], but the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook (aka Dell Inspiron 910) is now available to order on their website.  The three Mini 9 models – Standard, Social and XP Edition – are there, priced from $349 for the Standard and up to $449 for the Windows-based XP Edition, with an estimated ship date of September 16th.

This week’s highlight has been the SlashGear team knuckling down to cover HTC’s London launch of the Touch Diamond smartphone.  Our hands-on video of the Windows Mobile 6.1 device is pulling in some serious views, so if the thought of a 3G iPhone is leaving you cold then you need to be checking out the competition.

Meanwhile, budget ultraportables continued their onslaught, with pre-order pricing for both MSI’s Wind and HP’s XP version of the 2133 Mini-Note announced.  ASUS hasn’t been letting the grass grow under them either, confirming that the Eee PC 900 will hit the US on May 12th.  Slightly bigger, word of Dell’s upcoming Inspiron 1435, 1535 and 1735 ranges leaked, bringing with them some of the XPS’ specs including optional 3G and Blu-ray.

Dell have unveiled two custom laptop designs courtesy of artist Mike Ming.  The special editions – called Sea Sky and Bunch O Surfers – are based on the Inspiron 1525.  As such, they’re budget models despite the glossy case graphics, albeit budget models with 3GB of RAM as standard, a minimum of 160GB hard-drive and a choice of Intel Core Duo and Core 2 Duo processors.

insipron1525As the war between two HD format has ended, concern arise about competitive pricing. I myself included have thought Blu-ray equipments will not take anymore freefall on its price. Well, I was wrong – Dell actually added Blu-ray to its Inspiron 1525 laptops and still put the machine’s pricing under $900 ($879 to be exact).

So, the 1525 is now available for purchase here in the US and is being billed as thinner, smaller, and lighter than its predecessor, the 1520. The 1525’s are 25% lighter at 5.9 pounds and have a bottom end price of $499.
